Job Summary

Conducts tests for description and diagnosis of auditory pathology to neonatal, pediatric and geriatric patients. Conducts programs of rehabilitation for the hearing handicapped, and consults in the diagnostic and rehabilitation services for the speech and language disordered individual. Communicates with physicians, hearing aid dispensers, community resources, patient and family in order to develop and implement and appropriate plan of care. Provides clinical care efficiently and effectively using a high level of technical and organizational skills as well as critical thinking ability. Models/mentors and trains staff on technical skills.

Job Requirements

Education and Work Experience:

Bachelor’s Degree in audiology or speech language pathology or equivalent (some certifications will require Bachelor’s): Required Master's Degree: Preferred Three years' audiologist experience: Preferred

Licenses/Certifications

Audiology licensure in the state of practice: Required Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) or Basic Life Support (BLS OR HS-BLS OR RQIBLS) certification: Required Certificate of Clinical Competence in Audiology: Preferred Audiology (AUD) or State Audiology (SAUD): Required

Facility Specific License/Certifications

Hospital Fire and Life Safety (HLFS): Required

Essential Functions

Performs patient care and creates treatment programs in accordance with identified needs. Evaluates patient’s response to interventions. Modifies treatment plan appropriately. Evaluates need for aural rehabilitation. Conducts hearing aid selection. Provides hearing aid user orientation and auditory training, and consults with patient and members of the patient’s family in regards to problem and implications. Documents timely in accordance with established policies and procedures for regulatory/payer compliance. Ensures any staff member is able to treat client with minimal explanation. Performs chart audits. Provides supervision to hearing technicians, students and volunteers. Participates in orientation and training; Assists others in resolving routine problems. Participates in the performance review of others. Performs consultations, evaluations and assessments. Identifies problem areas and abnormal findings. Administers appropriate diagnostics hearing tests including audiological evaluations, impedance testing, site of lesion testing, electronystagmography testing and auditory brain stem evoked response testing and records results appropriately. Serves as technical specialist on daily tasks and cases. Trains and mentors staff. Assists in the maintenance of audiology equipment and supplies. Coordinates calibration and servicing of the audiology equipment as needed. Cleans all equipment, or arranges to have it cleaned, according to the recommendations of infection control. Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
