Job Summary Responds to the anesthetic needs of patients and coordinates their care with other perioperative personnel during the preoperative, intraoperative, and postoperative phases. Administers anesthesia services to patients for medical and surgical procedures relevant to the facility under the medical direction of staff anesthesiologist. Responds to emergent airway management needs within the facility as required. May be on-call, either in-house or from home, as required by the facility.
Accountabilities
Formulates anesthetic plan with anesthesiologist. Discusses plan, risks, benefits, and options with the patient. Prepares for the administration of anesthetic and implementation of the plan. - 15%
Performs special line placement procedures within the guidelines for the practice setting, including intravenous and arterial line insertion. - 10%
Documents pre-anesthesia assessment data. Records intraoperative anesthesia care, including vital signs, drug and fluid deliveries, blood loss, events and times, and comments. Documents charges, quality indicators, and controlled substance use and waste. - 25%
Maintains age-specific competence in anesthesia technical skills such as airway management, induction, blocks, and general anesthesia. - 20%
Continuously updates knowledge of anesthesia pharmacology, modalities, techniques, and technology. - 15%
Provides a safe practice environment by systematically minimizing risks related to infection, injury, psychological stress, and equipment failure. - 15%
Supervisory/Management Responsibilities This is a non-management role reporting to a supervisor, manager, director, or executive.
Minimum Requirements Master's Degree in Nurse Anesthesia. No previous experience required.
Required Certifications/Registrations/Licensure
SC RN- Advanced Practice
CRNA- Nurse Anesthetist
In Lieu Of The Minimum Requirements Noted Above CRNAs who graduated before December 31, 2003, from an organized, accredited nurse anesthetist program may qualify in lieu of a Master's Degree.
