Base pay range
$190,000.00/yr - $220,000.00/yr Coda Search is partnering with a leading real estate private equity group with a proven track record of managing and investing in high-performing assets in the US. With a growing portfolio and a reputation for operational excellence, the firm is seeking a Controller to join its leadership team with offices located in Jersey City, NJ. This individual will oversee a team of six and lead the full accounting operations for a portfolio of properties. The ideal candidate will bring deep expertise in Yardi, experience managing teams, and a strong command of GAAP, property accounting, and financial reporting. This is a highly visible role with direct interaction with senior leadership, offering competitive compensation, career growth, and a collaborative work environment with a great work-life balance. Responsibilities Oversee all day-to-day accounting operations for a large portfolio of commercial properties Manage and mentor a team of 6 property accountants and accounting staff Ensure timely and accurate monthly/quarterly financial reporting and property-level P&L reviews Lead the month-end and year-end close processes, including GL oversight, accruals, and reconciliations Oversee budgeting and forecasting activities across all entities and assets Manage all CAM reconciliations, real estate tax accruals, and tenant billing Coordinate and manage the annual audit process, serving as the primary liaison with external auditors Partner closely with asset management, property management, and executive leadership on financial performance and reporting Optimize accounting processes and internal controls, ensuring full compliance with GAAP Lead Yardi system improvements and data integrity across all modules Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance (CPA or MBA a plus) 8+ years of progressive accounting experience – real estate experience required Prior leadership experience managing accounting teams Strong expertise in Yardi Voyager (required) Solid understanding of property-level accounting, CAM reconciliations, and lease abstractions Proficient in Excel and real estate reporting tools Excellent communication, leadership, and organizational skills Strong analytical mindset with a focus on accuracy and process improvement Seniority level
