Job Description Summary Senior Director of Marketing and Communications will lead and oversee the MUSC Foundation’s marketing and communications strategies, ensuring alignment with the mission, vision, and goals for the MUSC Foundation, MUSC University and Health System. This leadership role, reporting into the Executive Director of Donor Experience, is responsible for developing, executing, and managing comprehensive marketing and communications plans to drive brand visibility, public relations, and stakeholder engagement. The individual will lead a team of marketing and communications professionals, collaborate with cross-functional teams, and represent the organization to external audiences.

Work Shift Job Description The Senior Director of Marketing and Communications will lead and oversee the MUSC Foundation’s marketing and communications strategies, ensuring alignment with the mission, vision, and goals for the MUSC Foundation, MUSC University and Health System. This leadership role, reporting into the Executive Director of Donor Experience, is responsible for developing, executing, and managing comprehensive marketing and communications plans to drive brand visibility, public relations, and stakeholder engagement. The individual will lead a team of marketing and communications professionals, collaborate with cross-functional teams, and represent the organization to external audiences.

Key responsibilities:

Strategic Planning (35%)

Develop and implement a comprehensive communication and marketing strategy aligned with the organization's vision and objectives.

Develop and implement comprehensive communication strategies aligned with business objectives, including identifying key audiences, crafting messaging, and selecting appropriate communication channels.

Set communication and marketing goals, key performance indicators (KPIs), and metrics to measure success.

Conduct market research and analysis to identify target audiences and market trends.

Identify and present new opportunities to expand awareness and drive engagement by donors with the MUSC Foundation’s areas of focus.

Brand Management (10%)

Oversee the development and protection of the organization's brand identity and messaging across all channels.

Ensure consistent brand messaging and visual representation in all communications.

Manage brand reputation and address potential crises impacting the brand image.

Protect and promote the organization’s brand identity through consistent messaging and visual representation across all communication platforms.

Marketing Operations (35%)

Oversee the development and execution of marketing campaigns across various channels, including digital marketing, social media, email, content marketing, print, and donor events.

Manage marketing budgets and allocate resources effectively.

Collaborate to generate leads and drive gifts.

Utilize data analytics to measure marketing performance, identify key insights, and make data-driven decisions.

Public and Media Relations (10%)

Build and maintain relationships with key media contacts to secure positive press coverage.

Develop and execute public relations strategies to manage the organization's public perception.

Issue press releases, media pitches, and other communication materials.

Manage relationships with the media, including issuing press releases, coordinating interviews, and responding to inquiries.

Lead crisis response efforts during critical situations, developing effective communication strategies to mitigate damage to the organization's reputation.

Oversee internal communication channels, ensuring employees are informed about organization updates, initiatives, and strategic direction.

Leadership and Internal Management (10%)

Lead and manage a team of marketing and communications professionals, including public relations specialists, content creators, social media managers, and designers.

Develop talent, provide mentorship, and foster a collaborative work environment.

Develop and implement internal communication strategies to keep employees informed about company updates, initiatives, and key developments.

Foster a positive employee culture through effective communication channels.

Advise senior leadership including President’s Office, on communication strategies, including speech writing and presentations.

Required Skills and Qualifications:

Proven experience in strategic marketing and communications planning, including digital marketing.

Strong understanding of branding principles and brand management.

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, including the ability to effectively present information to senior leadership.

Media relations experience and ability to manage crisis communications.

Deep understanding of social media platforms and digital marketing strategies.

Leadership and team management skills.

Bachelor’s degree in marketing, Communications, Public Relations, or related field.

Preferred Requirements: Master's degree in marketing, communications, public relations, or related field

Additional Job Description Education: Bachelors Degree or equivalent. Work Experience: 8-10 years
