What You Can Expect As a Data Scientist – Algorithmic Power Trading Advisor at ENGIE Energy Marketing North America (EEMNA), you will play a critical role in driving data-informed trading decisions by analyzing and enhancing internal price forecasting models. You will collaborate closely with the Head Trader and partner across software and data science teams to turn advanced models and statistical insights into real-time trading outcomes. Your work will directly influence trading strategy and portfolio performance in dynamic energy markets. This position operates in a fast-paced, high-impact environment that demands a strong foundation in probabilistic thinking, uncertainty quantification, and statistical analysis. You’ll be responsible for evaluating the accuracy of forecasts, identifying opportunities for improvement, and building tools to monitor risk and strategy performance. The ideal candidate is analytically sharp, self-motivated, and thrives at the intersection of data science and financial decision-making. Reporting to the Head of Algorithmic Power Trading, your roles and responsibilities include: Using Python, SQL (and SQL-like databases), Jupyter, and PyCharm to analyze, quantify, and evaluate price forecasts and trading strategies Working with the Head Trader to refine, evaluate and monitor forecasts and trading Leveraging data analysis to help identify areas for improvement of probabilistic price forecasts and collaborating with the Data Science team to help resolve those Developing tools to quantify, evaluate, and monitor risk across individual trading strategies as well as algorithmic portfolios Assisting with trading performance retrospective deep dives to understand drivers of results and building tools and pipelines to accelerate these analyses What You’ll Bring Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Statistics, Economics, Computer Science, Finance or related field Minimum of seven (7) years of experience working as a Quant Trading, Data Scientist, Systems Engineer, Software Developer or a similar role Proficiency with quant concepts, e.g. linear algebra, correlated uncertainty quantification and statistical analysis Proficiency in Python and SQL (or similar) Proficiency with probabilistic thinking and evaluation Ability to explain technical concepts to non-experts and document methodologies clearly Demonstrates a team-first mentality, strong attention to detail, and exemplary critical thinking with the ability to learn quickly Additional Details This role is based in Houston, TX with a hybrid work arrangement. However, for highly qualified candidates outside the area, a fully remote option within the U.S. is available, provided the individual can travel to the Houston office at least one week per month Must be willing and able to comply with all ENGIE ethics and safety policies Must be available to travel domestically up to 15% of the time and with the need for some overnight trips Compensation Salary Range:
$131,000 – $200,790 USD annually This represents the average expected pay range for a qualified candidate. ENGIE complies with all federal, state, and local minimum wage laws. Actual salary offered may vary depending on geography, experience, education, internal pay alignment, or other bona fide factors. In addition to base pay, this position is eligible for a competitive bonus / incentive plan.
