$149,347.00/yr - $157,388.00/yr Duties Description

As an Assistant Director Nursing 1 Psychiatric, you will will oversee Quality, Education, and Training to develop, coordinate, execute, and streamline nursing staff curriculum and ensure quality of care; as well as assist in the management, oversight, and evaluation of nursing and direct care services including:

Developing and implementing nursing policies and procedures Overseeing, evaluating, and participating in recruitment, training, and continuing education programs for nursing and direct care staff Supervising Registered Nurse Supervisor 1 Psychiatric and other nursing and direct care staff Ensuring compliance with established standards of nursing care in accordance with State, federal, and accreditation agency requirements

Minimum Qualifications

Candidates from outside and within State Service may be considered for hire under the Hiring for Emergency Limited Placement - Statewide (NY HELPS) program as an Assistant Director Nursing 1 Psychiatric if they have:

License and current registration as a registered professional nurse in New York State; and Bachelor’s degree in nursing; and 2 years of post-licensure clinical nursing experience working with individuals, at least 50% of whom have diagnosed with mental illness, addiction, or substance use disorders. 1 year of this experience must have been at a supervisory level.

Substitution: Master’s degree in nursing can substitute for 1 year of non-supervisory post-licensure clinical nursing experience.

Candidates who are appointed through the NY HELPS prior to June 2025 will be appointed in temporary status. In June 2025 the appointment will change to non-competitive permanent.

OR

Candidates from within State Service can be considered for a competitive class appointment if they are reachable on the current Mental Hygiene Nursing Program Coordinator eligible list.

OR

Candidates from within State service may be considered for transfer to a competitive class position if they have one year of permanent competitive or 55-b/55-c service in a title eligible for transfer under Section 70.1 of the Civil Service Law.

OR

In accordance with Section 52.7 of the Civil Service Law, this notice advises all employees of the Office of Mental Health of our intention to conduct a non-competitive promotion examination for the position of Assistant Director Nursing 1 Psychiatric at New York State Psychiatric Institute. Permanent appointment may be made by non-competitive promotion of an applicant who meets the position’s minimum qualifications if all requirements of non-competitive promotion are met.

The promotion field for the Assistant Director Nursing 1 Psychiatric position consists of candidates who have 1 year of permanent service as a Registered Nurse Supervisor 1 Psychiatric.

Additional Comments:

Posted hiring rate includes the sum of the statutory hiring rate for M/C M-1 ($93,659), an Increase Hiring Rate ($16,688), Geographic Pay Differential ($35,000) and Location pay ($4,000). The posted job rate is the sum of the statutory job rate ($118,388), Geographic Pay Differential ($35,000) and location pay ($4,000).

If appointed, you may be required to become an enrolled Medicare provider; obtain and provide to your employer a National Provider Identifier (NPI) number issued by the National Plan and Provider Enumeration System (NPPES); and otherwise actively participate to the degree necessary to allow for your services to be billed through Medicare and Medicaid. If you are appointed and you lose the ability to bill through Medicare and Medicaid, you may be terminated from your employment.
