A brief overview The Sr. Manager, Health, Safety, & Environment will lead the strategic planning, execution, and ongoing enhancement of all Health, Safety, and Environmental programs at the Site. Serving as the primary site authority, this role will oversee initiatives related to health, safety, environmental compliance, security, sustainability, and emergency preparedness. In collaboration with site leadership and the Director of HSE, the Sr. Manager will develop and implement a comprehensive HSE strategy that aligns with both site-specific priorities and broader corporate objectives. What you will do Educate employees at all levels on complex compliance topics, technical safety issues, and regulatory requirements. The incumbent will work closely with the Director of HSE and other key personnel to ensure full compliance with all internal company policies, as well as applicable federal, state, and local laws, statutes, ordinances, codes, and regulations relevant to Bachem’s operations. This role is responsible for ensuring that all site activities align with both Bachem’s internal standards and external regulatory requirements. Conducts audits and workplace inspections to ensure complete regulatory compliance. Inspects environmental systems and report gaps to leadership. Lead corrective action initiatives by identifying internal or external resources, providing feedback on noted deficiencies, and recommending solutions to achieve compliance Maintain HSE systems and documentation, ensuring compliance, supporting audits, and driving strategic safety initiatives. Lead HSE oversight for external consultants and services supporting regulatory programs and permits. Champion the Industrial Hygiene program, including environmental monitoring and workplace exposure assessments. Act as the HSE expert on site CAPEX projects, ensuring safety and environmental compliance from design through execution. Develop and maintain dashboards and performance metrics for HSE and CSR initiatives to drive continuous improvement. Conduct risk assessments, JHAs, PPE evaluations, and participate in HAZOPs and PSM/CalARP-related safety reviews. Manage environmental programs including air permits, wastewater, stormwater, SARA reporting, SPCC, and special waste. Lead incident investigations and root cause analyses, implementing corrective actions to prevent recurrence. Oversee emergency response operations, including leading the Emergency Response Team and after-hours incident support. Qualifications Bachelor's degree in a relevant field Minimum 7 years of experience in HSE Minimum 2 years of managerial experience Chemical or pharmaceutical industry experience (preferred) 40-Hour Hazardous Waste Operations and Emergency Response (HAZWOPER) Certification (preferred) Certified Safety Professional (CSP) or Associate Safety Professional (ASP) certificate (preferred) Demonstrated ability to communicate proactively and with a solution-focused mindset, including timely escalation of potential issues to management. Strong working knowledge of HSE regulations, hazard assessment methodologies, and emergency response protocols. Proven ability to organize, prioritize, and manage multiple tasks effectively in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment. Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to collaborate across teams and engage stakeholders at all levels. Familiarity with HSE management systems; cGMP experience is a plus. Expertise in documentation practices and environmental permitting processes. Detail-oriented with strong problem-solving skills and the ability to troubleshoot complex issues. Capable of developing, implementing, and managing comprehensive health and safety programs focused on incident prevention. Skilled in presenting technical information clearly and responding effectively to questions from diverse audiences. Able to explain and discuss safety concerns with a wide range of stakeholders, fostering understanding and compliance. Strong leadership and team management abilities, with a collaborative and inclusive approach. Experienced in conducting Process Safety Management (PSM) investigations and driving timely completion of corrective actions. Base Salary Range: $123,120 - $169,290
