The Controller will be responsible for oversight of the organization’s financial accounts and controls ensuring financial regulatory compliance, appropriate treasury oversight as well as other financial reporting and auditing functions, working closely with the Chief Accounting Officer (CAO) to report on financial operations and analyze the impact that business decisions have on the company’s finances.

This individual will also coordinate, manage and develop accounting department staff; leading a team of finance professionals to maintain the day-to-day financial operations, playing an integral role in ensuring the company’s overall financial health.

Duties & Responsibilities

Recruit, manage and develop accounting staff. Evaluate team member strengths and abilities and identify steps to help them reach their full potential. The Controller will motivate the team to work toward and exceed departmental goals.

Oversight of financial regulatory reporting, controls and audits ensuring submission of accurate financial statements in accordance with legal and regulatory requirements (e.g. FASB/NAIC) while maintaining proper documentation for audits, adhering to filing deadlines and ensuring transparency in financial disclosures. Monitoring regulatory changes, implementing necessary adjustments to accounting practices, and ensuring the organization’s financial activities meet the required legal and industry-specific standards.

Treasury oversight/ownership to ensure the financial health and risk management of the Company including strategic planning, cash and liquidity management, banking relationships, debt management and regulatory requirements.

Oversight of all aspects of financial analysis and budgeting including preparation of dynamic financial models, schedules and reports that will be used for both future planning and reporting results to business leaders, senior management, board members, and other stakeholders.

Function as the accounting liaison to the company’s line of business managers. Encourage collaboration across the company to improve internal controls, enhance processes and advance company performance. Develop strong working relationships across the organization and instill an exemplary customer service mindset within the accounting team.

In conjunction with the CAO, assist in the development, documentation, and enforcement of company’s financial and accounting policies and procedures. Participate in the ongoing operational strategies including the review and implementation of process and system changes.

Special projects as assigned.

Requirements & Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance. 10+ years experience in a senior accounting position – supervisory experience required. Extensive business experience and strategic knowledge. Highly skilled in forecasting and budgeting. Excellent financial and analytical skills. Strong communication and leadership skills. High attention to detail.

Must have the ability to focus on tasks for extended periods of time. Must be flexible and can work with a variety of tasks and employees. The ability to plan, organize, be detail and deadline oriented and maintain a high accuracy rate.

Physical Demands
