is seeking an
Assurance Manager specializing in State and Local Government/Public Sector Audits and Engagements . This role involves performing advanced accounting functions related to assurance specifications and managing a team of associates to deliver exceptional client service. The ideal candidate will plan, budget, and execute engagements, delegate work, and produce high-quality reports. This position requires extensive knowledge of advanced accounting principles, experience with public sector auditing, and the ability to manage various business and operational functions while maintaining positive client relations. The government entities MGO works with are among the largest in the US and many are bigger dollarwise than a lot of countries, including large states, counties, cities, airports, railways, and ports. Core Responsibilities Leading, managing, and holding people accountable (LMA) Assisting in the execution of growth strategies (research calls, pipeline management, COPs, etc.) Managing engagement project management, billing, and ensuring QC (technical) standards Meeting client deadlines and maintaining timely communication Developing engagement teams and preparing seniors and managers for the next level Essential Functions Performing and managing financial statement audits for public sector entities under GAGAS and GAAS Exhibiting technical proficiency and management ability to plan, budget, and manage audit engagements, including report preparation, in accordance with MGO’s policies Demonstrating project management skills to deliver products and services efficiently and on time Managing lower-level associates, providing feedback, and conducting performance evaluations Exhibiting expertise in assigned areas/departments Resolving technical and client service issues independently Recognizing and capitalizing on opportunities to provide additional services Monitoring and managing billing and pursuing cost savings Preparing billing worksheets and communicating with clients to ensure satisfaction Communicating effectively with all levels of staff and clients Acting as an advisor to lower-level associates Participating in professional associations Assisting in firm management functions as assigned Handling personnel responsibilities such as hiring, termination, and performance feedback Minimum Qualifications At least 5 years of experience with state & local government audits in public accounting or governmental entities, with 1-2 years as a manager Ability to assign work, guide employees, and complete projects on time and within budget Bachelor’s degree in accounting or equivalent CPA license required Strong verbal and written communication skills Ability to perform multiple tasks professionally Ability to maintain client confidentiality Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills Experience with GAGAS and GAAS standards Why Work For MGO At MGO, we value our team members and support their growth.
