Role summary: This person will report directly to the Commissioning and Qualification Engineering Manager and will lead and execute the commissioning, qualification, startup, and optimization of complex industrial processing systems, ensuring safe, efficient, and compliant operations. This role requires deep technical expertise, leadership in troubleshooting, and coordination across multidisciplinary teams to successfully transition projects from construction to full operation. In the role of Senior Commissioning and Qualification (C&Q) Engineer, you will be joining a world-class Engineering team that is delivering innovative solutions to tough problems.
This position is fully onsite and will work from our Riverside office location in Chattanooga, TN. Currently, the working hours for this role are day shift from Monday to Friday. Please note that as our company evolves, working arrangements, locations, and hours may change to meet business needs.
Responsibilities include: • Lead and manage commissioning activities for complex industrial processing systems, ensuring seamless integration from construction to full operational capacity • Develop comprehensive commissioning strategies, including risk assessments, scheduling, resource allocation, and coordination with other engineering disciplines, operations, and maintenance teams • Serve as the primary technical authority for troubleshooting and resolving complex system and equipment issues during startup and commissioning • Lead qualification efforts, ensuring compliance with industry standards and regulatory requirements for IQ, OQ, and PQ activities • Ensure strict adherence to industry standards, safety regulations, and environmental compliance during commissioning activities. • Mentor and train junior commissioning engineers, providing technical guidance and knowledge transfer to enhance team capabilities. • Other duties as assigned You are: • An experienced industry professional with a Bachelor's or Master’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Chemical, or Industrial Engineering, or a related field • A skilled engineer with 8+ years of experience in commissioning, startup, or maintenance of large-scale industrial processing facilities in a complex industry, such as paper, petroleum, or chemical manufacturing • Extensively knowledgeable of process equipment, control systems, instrumentation, and commissioning best practices, with the ability to interpret complex engineering documentation (P&IDs, electrical schematics, etc.) • An expert in managing commissioning and qualification (C&Q) activities, including regulatory compliance for highly controlled environments (e.g., pharmaceuticals, biotech, or chemical processing) • Strong leadership and project management skills, with a track record of successfully overseeing commissioning activities on large projects • Proven ability to diagnose and resolve advanced technical issues in mechanical, electrical, and process systems • An excellent communicator with coordination skills and the ability to collaborate across multidisciplinary teams • A highly motivated self-starter who takes initiative • Well organized and invested in the details • Consultative and engaging, able to influence senior leaders • Able to prioritize and manage multiple projects simultaneously • Willing to work extended hours as needed during commissioning phases
Extra awesome if you also have: • P.E., MBA, or other higher level career achievements • Extensive experience with large-scale, multi-system commissioning projects • Expertise in advanced troubleshooting techniques, including root cause analysis (RCA) methodologies • Experience working with regulatory bodies and compliance audits • Carbon, battery, or graphite manufacturing experience
