Position Summary

The Project Engineer IV - Automation leads advanced automation projects, driving innovation, efficiency, and compliance to support Empower’s mission. This role designs cutting-edge systems and collaborates across teams to expand access to affordable, high-quality medications.

Duties And Responsibilities

Leads key deliverables for large automation projects, including Capital Acquisition Requests, Project Scope, Schedule, and Budget, while ensuring alignment with project objectives. Creates and manages project documentation like User Requirement and Functional Specifications, providing expertise to ensure automation solutions meet goals. Performs equipment qualification and validation (Factory Acceptance Test, Site Acceptance Test, Installation Qualification, Operational Qualification) and addresses Current Good Manufacturing Practice (cGMP) deficiencies. Coordinates with contractors, vendors, and Information Technology teams to align automation systems and infrastructure with project needs, resolving issues to maintain progress. Supports facility modifications, project shutdowns, safety assessments, and preventive maintenance programs, ensuring adherence to quality and safety standards.

While performing the responsibilities of the job, the employee is required to talk and hear. The employee is often required to remain in a stationary position for a significant amount of the workday and frequently use their hands and fingers to handle or feel in order to access, input, and retrieve information from the computer and other office productivity devices. The employee is regularly required to move about the office and around the corporate campus. The employee is regularly required to stand, walk, reach with arms and hands, climb or balance, and to stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl.

Knowledge And Skills

Exceptional communication, problem-solving, planning, and teamwork skills, with attention to detail, flexibility, and the ability to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment. Proven pharmaceutical or biopharma industry experience, expertise in managing engineering consultants, vendors, and contractors, proficiency in Microsoft Office, and preferred skills in troubleshooting, AutoCAD, and industrial process environments.

Experience and Qualifications

Minimum of 10 years of experience applying engineering principles to Automation Systems, Control Systems, and instrumentation, including Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning, Johnson Controls, Vaisala Systems, Rockwell Automation, Siemens, and Delta V, in a cGMP-compliant environment. Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Industrial, Electrical or Electronical Engineering required. Degrees based on Technology are not acceptable. Professional Engineer license preferred.
