About the role:
We are seeking an Engineering Manager to lead the team responsible for systems that generate Garner's healthcare provider rankings. The ideal candidate will have a strong sense of ownership, experience mentoring engineers at all levels, expertise with distributed systems, and the ability to deliver complex technical solutions reliably. This position reports to the VP of Health Intelligence Engineering.
This role is fully remote.
What you will do:
Provide technical leadership and deliver new features aligned with Garner's strategic goals
Own and manage the core systems responsible for provider rankings
Maintain high quality standards while ensuring efficient, timely delivery
Balance developing new capabilities with scaling and optimizing existing systems
Collaborate across disciplines to identify bottlenecks and risks, propose mitigations, and communicate tradeoffs
Champion user data privacy and security across all initiatives
Foster a high-performing, collaborative team culture through leadership, mentorship, and talent development
What you will bring:
5+ years of hands-on engineering experience, focusing on Big Data and distributed systems
1+ years managing engineering teams, with a proven track record of building and mentoring high-performing teams
Expertise with batch data processing frameworks like Hadoop, Spark, EMR, etc.
Proficiency with Big Data technologies such as Argo, Apache Iceberg, AWS Glue, Spark, Metaflow, DBT, and Soda
Strong ownership and proactive mindset, with the ability to translate complex business needs into scalable technical roadmaps
Experience working effectively in dynamic, fast-paced startup environments with a hands-on approach
Preference for managing healthcare data standards (e.g., HIPAA, EDI)
A commitment to our mission to improve the U.S. healthcare system
Compensation:
The target salary range is $220,000 - $250,000. Compensation will depend on qualifications, skills, and applicable laws. This role includes eligibility for equity incentives and benefits such as flexible PTO, Medical/Dental/Vision plans, 401(k), Teladoc Health, and more.
