Company:

Asurion

Location:

Nashville, TN

About Asurion:

Asurion is a global leader in technology protection and support solutions. Our commitment is to make life easier for our customers by providing personalized tech support, device protection, and data-driven insights. Join a company where innovation thrives, teamwork is encouraged, and excellence is rewarded.

Role Overview:

We’re looking for a proven AI/ML leader with a passion for rapid experimentation and innovation. In this role, you’ll lead a high-caliber team focused on transforming state-of-the-art AI into real-world applications that deliver measurable business value.

As the Director, AI & Machine Learning (Rapid Prototyping & Innovation), you will guide a team of engineers specializing in machine learning engineering, rapid prototyping, and AI-driven application development.

Your team will partner tightly with data scientists to co-develop and deploy novel AI capabilities—especially in areas like natural language processing (NLP), computer vision, AI speech models, and multimodal learning—turning research and ideas into functioning prototypes that validate business impact.

You’ll also work closely with enterprise software engineering and technology teams to ensure these prototypes evolve into scalable, enterprise-grade solutions.

This role bridges AI innovation with production excellence—where ideas meet execution and scale.

This team is a strategic driver of Asurion’s future growth, enabling next-generation products and customer experiences through cutting-edge AI and ML technologies. As part of the Center of Excellence (CoE) for Data Science and AI, this group is central to shaping the company’s long-term innovation agenda.

You will have the opportunity to work hands-on with diverse data modalities including audio, visual, text, structured, and unstructured data, and lead a team committed to fast iteration, experimentation, and applied AI excellence.

Responsibilities:

Lead AI/ML engineering efforts to prototype and pilot cutting-edge machine learning solutions across domains such as NLP, computer vision, AI speech models, and multimodal learning. Drive tight collaboration between AI engineers and data scientists to transform ML models into fully functional, testable, and measurable prototypes. Oversee the end-to-end lifecycle of AI projects from ideation through pilot deployment, performance evaluation, and transition to production. Collaborate with enterprise software engineering and platform teams to scale successful pilots into robust, secure, and maintainable applications. Foster a culture of rapid experimentation, technical excellence, and continuous learning. Mentor and develop engineering talent to advance their expertise in ML infrastructure, deployment practices, and agile AI development. Promote AI engineering best practices in model serving, experimentation pipelines, data feedback loops, and system reliability. Balance fast-paced prototyping with thoughtful technical design to enable scale and maintainability.

Qualifications:

Bachelor's or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Machine Learning, Engineering, or a related field. 10+ years of engineering experience with a focus on AI/ML product development or applied machine learning engineering. 5+ years of leadership experience building and managing teams focused on machine learning infrastructure, model deployment, or AI application development. Demonstrated ability to partner closely with data science teams to bring ML models to life through working software. Strong foundation in ML frameworks (e.g., TensorFlow, PyTorch), model lifecycle tools, and serving architectures. Hands-on experience with building, deploying, and optimizing AI/ML solutions in production environments. Familiarity with enterprise technologies and experience integrating ML solutions into large-scale software ecosystems. Excellent communication and collaboration skills across multidisciplinary teams and stakeholders.

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience with real-time analytics and streaming data systems. Experience in deploying LLMs, AI speech technologies, generative AI, or multi-modal AI applications. Knowledge of MLOps, model versioning, observability, and performance tracking. Track record of successfully translating AI research into tangible, measurable applications. Experience collaborating with business units to validate and quantify the value of AI applications. Startup or innovation lab experience a plus.

Why Asurion:

Exposure to diverse datasets: audio, visual, natural language, structured, and unstructured. Work with a highly skilled team of data scientists and machine learning engineers.
