Job Description
We are seeking a visionary Senior Bioinformatics Manager to lead the development of a data analysis platform that transforms biospecimens and clinical information into research-ready resources, enabling discoveries in pediatric disease research. This leadership role involves building and mentoring a high-performing team to develop the informatics infrastructure necessary for this transformation. Reporting to the Biobank Directors, you will recruit and oversee bioinformatics analysts, database architects, and IT specialists, collaborating closely with laboratory automation, compliance, and clinical informatics teams. This position is pivotal for launching Texas Children's innovative pediatric biobank, which combines automated robotics, large-scale genomic data, and comprehensive health records to create a premier resource for childhood disease research. Job Duties
Architecture & Strategy:
Design and implement a secure, scalable data platform capable of handling whole-genome, multi-omics, sample metadata, and EHR data. Pipeline Development:
Lead the creation and maintenance of workflows for DNA/RNA sequencing, quality control, and downstream analyses, including variant annotation and data aggregation. Team Leadership:
Build and develop a top-tier bioinformatics team, fostering a culture of scientific rigor and continual learning. Data Governance & Compliance:
Ensure data integrity and patient privacy by adhering to HIPAA and institutional policies. Establish SOPs and QC metrics. Collaboration & Communication:
Act as the primary liaison between bioinformatics, laboratory automation, clinical partners, and external collaborators, contributing to grants, publications, and presentations. Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree At least five years of relevant experience Preferred Qualifications
Ph.D. or M.S. in Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, Computer Science, or related field Expertise in NGS data processing, cloud/HPC environments, workflow managers (Nextflow, Snakemake, Cromwell), containerization, and SQL databases Experience integrating genomic data with clinical/EHR systems in regulated environments Proven leadership in building and managing high-performing teams and delivering projects on time Excellent communication skills and a commitment to reproducibility, data security, and privacy Familiarity with genomics analysis, LIMS integration, and cloud platforms like AWS Experience with robotic or automated laboratory pipelines
