Balyasny Asset Management L.P. Longaeva: Pronounced “long-AY-vuh”, our name is rooted in meaning! We are named after one of the oldest and most resilient living species, the Longaeva pine. It represents longevity, adaptability, and persistence. It thrives in extreme conditions and has adapted for thousands of years in harsh environments. We hope to do the same, delivering positive, risk-adjusted returns to our investors in harsh and varied market conditions. We are a New York based hedge fund with a global investment mandate focusing on long duration investing across long/short public equities and late-stage private deals. Peter Goodwin is our founder and CIO, bringing almost 20 years of investing experience across the healthcare, consumer and TMT sectors. We are a high conviction, ideas driven firm built on a foundation of high performing product specialists and an intense commitment to primary research and data. Description Summary We are looking for a highly energetic hands-on Project Manager to own the full life-cycle of external technology solutions that powers our hedge fund. You will translate business vision into actionable roadmaps, drive vendor evaluations (POCs, RFPs), and orchestrate execution across trading, operations, treasury, back office, fund accounting, risk, research, compliance, legal and HR. The ideal candidate is equally comfortable white-boarding FIX workflows with traders, constructing RFP scorecards, or running JIRA scrums with vendor PMs. This role sits between business leadership, engineering, and external vendors – translating strategy into executable plans, driving delivery, and ensuring each solution meets the firm’s goals. Day-to-Day Reality Morni ng: Run a 15-minute stand-up covering three concurrent vendor builds, each at a different phase Mid-day : Jump into an urgent trader request to tweak FIX routing for a new venue before the Asia open Afternoon : Re-plan the next two sprints after the CIO pulls forward a high-impact treasury initiative Eveni ng: Close the loop with Legal on redlines for a time-sensitive SOW - because the sandbox goes live Monday If that cadence excites rather than exhausts you, keep reading. What Success Looks Like in Our Environment Longaeva’s team operates with high urgency and runs more like a VC-backed start-up. The pace is intense, priorities can pivot with market conditions, and we often balance10+ critical workstreams at once. To thrive here you must: Deliver and execute projects at high RPM. Personally move multiple (5+) projects a week (not just one large program a quarter), while maintaining elite quality and avoiding burnout Keep structure under pressure. Turn ambiguous asks into clear, timestamped deliverables within hours, not days. Be adaptive and re-prioritize work daily without losing sight of the long-term goals Communicate clearly under pressure, and keep stakeholders (traders, portfolio manager, C-suite) informed with crisp updates, especially when fires burn. Lead decision calls, surfaces and highlight trade-offs, and take decisive actions. Have high ownership mindset. Lean in on nights or weekends when a cut-over, production issue, or market event demands it. Have start-up DNA and be happiest in lean teams, thin hierarchy, zero bureaucracy. Core Responsibilities Discovery and Requirements Gathering Conduct stakeholder interviews, workshops, journey mapping Decompose high-level goals into epics, user stories, acceptance criteria Maintain an enterprise requirements backlog and dependency matrix Vendor Strategy and Evaluation Run market scans, build long-lists and short-lists of vendors Design RFI/RFP packages and objective scoring models Coordinate proof-of-concepts / sandbox testing with end users Project and Program Management Build detailed project plans (scope, timeline, budget, risks) and run complex, cross-functional projects Drive daily/weekly stand-ups, steering committees, status reporting Escalate blockers; manage change control and cross-vendor dependencies Quality Assurance & UAT Testing Author test scripts, coordinate data sets and environments Lead user acceptance testing, defect triage, sign-off gate Ensure regulatory/compliance validation where relevant Roll-out and Product Adoption Build training materials, quick-reference guides Conduct SME train-the-trainer sessions Measure adoption, capture feedback for continuous improvement Production Support and Product Ownership Serve as functional SME for internal users Maintain product roadmap in concert with vendor account teams Drive periodic vendor Quarterly Business Reviews (QBRs), SLA reviews, and contract renewals Qualifications 5-7+ years as a Project Manager, Business Analyst, or Technical Product Manager in buyside, sell-side, or FinTech vendor environment Deep functional understanding of Portfolio Management Systems, Order Management Systems, and Execution Management Systems Proven track record running end-to-end RFPs and POCs; managing vendors; negotiation savvy with vendor MSAs/SOWs Strong project management skills and toolkits: Agile/Scrum, PMP, or PMI-ACPH Hands-on familiarity with FIX, market data feeds, reconciliations, reference data, and reporting Comfort querying SQL and manipulating data for testing/analysis (scripting languages and Python is a plus) Excellent written/oral communication and interpersonal skills; ability to craft C-level decks and line-level user stories alike Bachelor’s degree in finance, Engineering, Computer Science or related With respect to NY, CA, and IL based applicants, the starting base pay range for this role is between $150,000 and $225,000 annually.
