PRIMARY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

Hiring Salary: $126,293 - $157,866/year

Salary to be commensurate with experience.

OVERVIEW OF POSITION / DEPARTMENT

Under the direction of the Director of General Management, the Manager of Fleet Operations is responsible for managing all aspects of the vehicle and equipment maintenance program including acquisition, maintenance, utilization, and disposal of the organization’s vehicles, ensuring efficient and cost-effective fleet operations. This role involves team management, managing vehicle lifecycles and regulatory compliance, as well as analyzing data and optimizing fleet performance.

PRIMARY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

Manages the daily operations of City's fleet services division. Directs and monitors the vehicle/equipment maintenance repair operation including parts purchasing and motor fuel agreement contracts, ensuring best pricing; establishes and reports divisions performance standards. Equipment replacement programs, including special funds, preparing specifications Purchasing new equipment and disposing of old or excess equipment. Monitors vehicle/equipment asset utilization making redistribution recommendations Provides budget and cost data to other departments concerning the operation and replacement of equipment. Represents fleet services on internal and external committees. Develops and proposes vehicle maintenance and replacement policies, prepares, and monitors the fleet operations and maintenance revenue and replacement budgets Assists in developing operational priorities, goals, and objectives. Ensures customer service-oriented delivery. Identifies and develops vision for long-term planning required for future levels of service, resource needs and strategy of effectively delivering services. Makes recommendations to the Director regarding selecting, hiring, training, evaluation and disciplining of assigned employees. Supervises assigned employees. Performs other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS & WORKING CONDITIONS

An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience that demonstrates required knowledge, skills, and abilities may be considered.

Education:

Bachelor's degree in business administration, management, transportation management or directly related field.

Experience:

Minimum of (5) five years in fleet vehicle maintenance (10 years in general fleet maintenance preferred) Minimum of (3) three years supervisory experience in fleet vehicle maintenance operation.

Preferred Qualification:

Master’s degree in business or related field or Certified Administrative Fleet Manager Certification (CAFM). 5 years fleet maintenance supervision preferred.

Knowledge:

Knowledge of the principles, practices and operating requirements of fleet services operations involving diverse specialty equipment. Vehicle maintenance and control methods. Financial management. Computer and related software applications including fleet management software.

Skills:

Strong interpersonal and managerial skills. Skill in the use of windows-based programs. Strong customer service skills. Skills in customer relations, crisis communications management, public speaking, and media relations. Skill in checking information for accuracy and completeness and correcting errors.

Abilities:

Establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, all levels of management including executive staff, citizens, and elected officials. Handle sensitive situations with tact and diplomacy. Communicate effectively both orally and in writing. Direct and effectively supervise a diverse workforce. Administer budgets. Creatively solve problems, negotiate, and handle stressful situations in a positive manner.

Licenses And Certifications Required:

Colorado Driver’s license with a good driving record.

WORKING CONDITIONS

Essential Personnel:

When a local announcement of emergency or disaster is declared by the city, all City of Aurora employees may be required to work as essential personnel.

Physical Demands:

Sedentary physical work requiring ability to lift a maximum of 10 pounds with or without assistance. Occasional lifting, carrying, walking, and standing; speech communication and hearing to maintain.

Work Environment:

Works in a clean, comfortable environment.

Equipment Used:

Standard business and professional equipment and tools including technological and mechanical applications.
