We are looking for a talented, passionate and motivated Engineering Manager responsible for leading the gasoline engine emissions and OBD validation team in our Chino, CA facility. This group supports the Hyundai, Genesis and Kia brands with technical expertise in development and validation of vehicle emissions and onboard diagnostics. This position reports to the senior manager of ePPT.

WHAT YOU WILL DO

Lead local gasoline engine OBD and emissions validation fleet program

Lead fleet vehicle data analysis to identify component or system failure early warning signs

Lead investigations into in-use emissions and OBD audit concerns

Develop and test engine calibration and hardware improvements

Lead calibration and validation of select gas engine OBD features for new products

Lead engine emissions and OBD system related quality issue tracking, root cause investigation and resolution for conventional and hybrid vehicles

Provide OBD and engine management system engineering technical support for North American assembly plants

Manage direct reports, including task assignment, employee development and evaluation

Hire, develop and mentor engineering talent to maintain engine emissions and OBD calibration expertise for US market products

Set team goals and objectives, aligned with department's strategic direction

Regular reporting of project status and milestones to management in US and abroad

Create and deliver executive-level presentations on key project milestones, quality issues and team achievements

Travel both domestically and internationally (up to 15%)

WHAT YOU WILL BRING TO THE ROLE Basic Qualifications

B.S. in mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, or related engineering field from an accredited university

8+ years of automotive engineering experience

5+ years of gasoline engine calibration, emissions or OBD development experience

2+ years of project leadership/management experience

Demonstrated foundational knowledge of ICE system principles and operation, especially emissions control and OBD

A proven track record of delivering engineering projects related to vehicle OBD/emissions calibration, testing, validation, or certification

Strong written and verbal communication skills and an ability to clearly explain deeply technical topics to both technical and non-technical collaborators and leadership

Ability to develop and maintain working relationships with international technical experts

Experience with model-based development tools such as MATLAB/Simulink

Working knowledge of vehicle communication networks (CAN, LIN, Ethernet, etc.)

Working knowledge of vehicle instrumentation including ETAS hardware and software

Preferred Qualifications

M.S. or Ph.D. in mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, or related engineering field

2+ years of direct engineering team leadership experience

Familiarity with fleet vehicle instrumentation and cloud-based data acquisition

Experience in data analytics and visualizing large vehicle datasets, including in statistical programming languages such as R or Python
