Zurich is seeking a successful Workers’ Compensation Defense Trial Attorney I or II to work in our Los Angeles Staff Legal Office. This Attorney will be responsible for representing the Company in all phases of Workers’ Compensation litigation in the Northern California area. They will be practicing law in compliance with ethical standards as established by state law by preparing and defending moderate to high exposure Workers’ Compensation cases from a challenging and varied caseload. Responsibilities will include working directly with claims professionals providing legal analysis and advice, preparing and filing legal pleadings and documents, performing legal research, preparing for and conducting pre-trial discovery, preparing for and handling final hearings before the workers’ compensation judge, and conducting post-trial activities where appropriate. Under limited direction, the attorney will work within broad limits and authority on complex assignments requiring specialized knowledge in breadth and/or depth in area of expertise. This role will be filled at either the Workers’ Compensation Defense Attorney I OR II role. The hiring manager will determine the appropriate level based upon the selected applicant’s experience and skill set relative to the qualifications listed for this position. Basic Qualifications for the Workers’ Compensation Defense Attorney I role:
Juris Doctor and 1 or more years of experience in the Litigation area Member in good standing of the California State Bar Association Experience working with Lexis or Westlaw Knowledge of the insurance industry, claims and the insurance defense litigation legal environment Knowledge of the law and procedure Basic Qualifications for the Workers’ Compensation Defense Attorney II role:
Juris Doctor and 5 or more years of experience in the Litigation area including Worker’s Compensation Litigation experience Member in good standing of the California State Bar Association Experience with Microsoft Office and Adobe Experience working with Lexis or Westlaw Knowledge of the insurance industry, claims and the insurance defense litigation legal environment Knowledge of the law and procedure Preferred Qualifications for either role:
Experience working in a team-based environment Effective problem solving and analytical skills Experience handling Workers’ Compensation Claims Compensation for roles at Zurich varies depending on a wide array of factors including but not limited to the specific office location, role, skill set, and level of experience. The combined salary range for this position is $110,000.00 - $155,000.00. The starting salary range for the Workers’ Compensation Defense Attorney I is $110,000.00 - $140,000.00. The salary range for the Workers’ Compensation Defense Attorney II role is $135,000.00 - $155,000.00, with short-term incentive bonus eligibility set at 10% for both roles.
