Full-Time Description: Reporting to the Dean of the DeMatteis School of Engineering and Applied Science, the Senior Associate Dean/Vice Dean plays a crucial role in the management and administration of the school. This position oversees curriculum development, personnel matters, and student academic affairs. Additionally, this role has oversight of undergraduate and graduate student recruitment efforts and participates in the Dean's Advisory Board activities. This position also supports the Dean in college-wide initiatives, including accreditation, strategic planning, and communications.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Manages the day-to-day academic operations and develops plans for growth and expansion, including hiring new faculty and managing the tenure and promotion process. Oversees curriculum and personnel affairs, including approving bulletin changes, faculty loads, course and load changes, and drafting appointment and reappointment letters. Manages student academic affairs, including approving grade changes, grade appeals, waivers, and substitutions, and participating in honors code adjudication. Handles accreditation actions, including writing sections of ABET reports for the reaccreditation of existing programs in both Computer Science and Engineering, and assisting with state applications for new programs. Implements and monitors extracurricular programs and develops Student Success initiatives. Assists the Dean with writing and creating public relations brochures, newsletters, blogs, and online articles. Oversees and engages in ongoing recruitment efforts throughout the year, including conducting academic overviews at admissions events, special interest tours, and updating recruitment communications. Works with the Assistant Dean for Co-op and Experiential Learning to advance participation in the co-op program and implementation of the DEPTH program. Collaborates with the Dean on long-term planning to implement annual school-wide goals and strategic plans, including analyzing trends affecting DeMatteis School enrollment and academic posture and preparing all annual reports. Engages effectively with the Dean's Advisory Board, supporting the Dean in developing and expanding the school's alumni and industry partnerships. Attends meetings and performs tasks normally handled by the Dean in the Dean's absence. Performs other related duties as assigned. Qualifications: Master's degree in computer science or a related field required. Minimum five years of administrative experience, including leadership or senior roles. Must demonstrate exceptional interpersonal and communication skills to effectively engage with faculty, students, prospective students, alumni, advisory board members, and university administrators. Preferred Qualifications: Ph.D. in Computer Science is preferred. Five years of experience in senior academic administration, including service as a department chair or assistant/associate dean. Experience in strategic planning and curriculum development.
