University of Notre Dame - Annenberg Chair in American Studies and Journalism

The Department of American Studies at the University of Notre Dame invites applications for a tenured associate or full professor to hold the Walter H. Annenberg-Edmund P. Joyce Chair in American Studies and Journalism. Candidates will be expected to direct and teach courses for the Gallivan Program in Journalism, Ethics, and Democracy. They must have a Ph.D. and an excellent record of research and publishing in a related field, as well as a strong record of teaching relevant course material. The Gallivan Program offers a robust undergraduate minor for students across the university. It aims to train ethically sensitive journalists who understand the role of a free press in a democratic society, and who are familiar with today’s complex media landscape. We seek candidates who are excited to lead this program as well as participate in the Department of American Studies, which seeks to “study the American experience in all its diversity” and also houses a minor in Sport, Media, and Culture. University-wide strategic initiatives on democracy and ethics provide additional opportunities for collaboration and support of the candidate’s research, teaching, and program development. Contact Information Candidates should upload a CV and a brief letter of interest via Interfolio. Applications received by October 15 will receive the fullest consideration. The search committee will request further materials, including letters of recommendation, as necessary at a later date. Please contact search committee chair Anthony Petro (apetro2@nd.edu) with any questions.
