Biomarker Principal Scientist II (LAB-BASED)
Job Description Summary #LI-Onsite Biomarkers are critical components of translational research, enabling robust therapeutic and mechanistic hypothesis testing in early and late clinical development, and as precision medicine enablers covering various contexts of use, e.g., target engagement, pathway modulation, efficacy assessment, PD/PK, safety, disease modification, patient stratification, and compound differentiation. As a Scientist in Biomarker Development within Translational Medicine at Novartis, you will collaborate closely with Molecular and Cellular Sciences leads and clinical teams to implement biomarker activities, interpret results, and develop innovative solutions supporting clinical programs.
This role is part of the Molecular & Cellular Sciences (MCS) team within Biomarker Development (BMD) and Translational Medicine (TM) at NIBR. BMD focuses on delivering integrated biomarkers leveraging expertise in immunology, biochemistry, bioanalytical methods, cellular biology, and data sciences.
Our innovative approach addresses key clinical questions such as target engagement, disease progression, safety, efficacy, patient selection, and additional clinical indications for novel molecules.
Job Description Key Responsibilities: Identify and implement new cutting-edge biomarker technologies to fill research gaps. Provide expertise in soluble biomarker assays (e.g., ligand binding, mass spectrometry) and knowledge of other modalities (flow cytometry, PCR, NGS). Develop, validate, and implement targeted biomarker assays internally and with external vendors. Execute biomarker plans, ensuring quality and timely data delivery for clinical studies. Interpret data to demonstrate proof of mechanism, inform dose selection, and support biological understanding, presenting findings internally. Translate literature and hypotheses into experimental designs aligned with biomarker use cases. Provide scientific oversight for collaborations, including study design and data interpretation. Publish and present findings at scientific forums. Essential Requirements: MS in Biology, Biochemistry, or related field. At least 12 years of experience in biomarker method development and validation in industry or CROs. Leadership in emerging technology and patient-centric innovation. Proficiency with immunoassay platforms (MSD, Luminex, Ella, Quanterix Simoa), mass spectrometry, Western blots, Cobas; multiplex and profiling platforms experience preferred. Experience troubleshooting assays and transferring assays to CROs. Experience working in global, matrixed organizations with good computer skills (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, SoftMaxPro, SMART, Spotfire, GraphPad, Watson LIMS).
