Proposal Engineer - Project Operations

Eaton’s ES AMER ESS division is currently seeking a Proposal Engineer - Project Operations. This position primarily supports proposal needs for large and/or complex projects related to EESS Project Operation solutions, including Microgrid and Energy Transition projects. The expected annual salary range for this role is $123,913.08 - $181,739.18, and it is eligible for a variable incentive program. Salaries depend on candidate skills, experience, qualifications, market, and business considerations. What you’ll do: Support proposals for the Central Region and other locations, including US national requests. Respond to requests from Project Operations Managers, NAS Sales, Utility & Other Reps, Channel Partners, and Market Segment Managers. Lead detailed technical and commercial proposal writing for opportunities in the region and support other regions as needed. Assist with proposals for Large Projects across segments such as Utility, Switchgear modernization, Data Centers, Industrial, and Government Projects. Support microgrid and energy transition turnkey projects. Travel as needed for site visits, customer meetings, and sales training (typically 1-3 days per trip). Develop pricing, construction estimates, and subcontractor scope. Provide solutions beyond standard specifications to enhance customer value. Analyze and review project specifications and equipment requirements. Create Level I schedules for proposals. Understand contract terms, identify risks, and collaborate with Regional Project Operations Managers. Participate in customer presentations and joint visits to promote project capabilities. Support project hand-offs and ongoing project support, capturing additional scope beyond initial specifications. Contribute to proposal activity reporting and professional development, including completing Eaton University classes and safety training. Develop and share proposal templates, pricing tools, and improve proposal efficiency. Qualifications: Basic: B.S. in Engineering (Electrical preferred) or related field with 5+ years of engineering/technical experience. Minimum 5 years electrical industry experience in application engineering and proposal development, including power systems, hydro/excitation, and substation construction. Reside within 50 miles of Beachwood OH, Moon Township PA, Chicago IL, Detroit MI, Columbus or Cincinnati OH, Indianapolis IN, Springfield IL (active-duty military exempt). Preferred: 7+ years of electrical engineering and proposal experience, including substation, switchgear, and electrical system projects. Experience with microgrid, energy storage, renewable energy solutions, and government proposals. Experience with subcontractor scope and agreement review, risk management, estimating, field electrical work, project scheduling, AutoCAD, and Bidman. Skills: Technical writing, proposal development, organizational skills, presentation skills, proficiency in Excel. Knowledge of power distribution, automation, power management, HMI software, PLC programming, relay controls, cybersecurity.
