This role ensures accurate and timely preparation of financial statements in accordance with statutory accounting principles (SAP) and relevant regulatory requirements.
Key Responsibilities: Job Summary:
The Assistant Controller supports the Controller and Finance leadership in managing the financial operations of the company, with a focus on statutory reporting, insurance accounting, regulatory compliance, and internal controls. This role ensures accurate and timely preparation of financial statements in accordance with statutory accounting principles (SAP) and relevant regulatory requirements.
Key Responsibilities:
Assist in the preparation and review of quarterly and annual statutory financial statements (e.g., NAIC statements).
Ensure compliance with state insurance department regulations and statutory accounting principles (SAP).
Support external audits and state examinations by providing required documentation and responding to auditor inquiries.
Assist in the preparation of internal financial reports and analysis for management decision-making.
Oversee month-end and year-end close processes, ensuring proper reconciliations and journal entries related to insurance operations.
Maintain and improve internal controls over financial reporting.
Collaborate with actuarial, claims, underwriting, and other departments to ensure accurate financial data.
Monitor and analyze accounting and regulatory developments impacting insurance accounting and reporting.
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field (CPA preferred).
5+ years of accounting experience, including statutory accounting within an insurance company or public accounting firm.
Strong understanding of statutory accounting principles (SAP), US GAAP, and regulatory reporting requirements.
Experience with insurance industry financial systems and tools (e.g., SAP, Oracle, Workiva, or similar).
Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
Ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines in a dynamic environment.
