Senior Network Engineer With offices located in both the Upper Peninsula and Northern Part of Michigan, the Senior Network Engineer at Michigan Broadband Services (MBS) will be responsible for technical leadership and planning for future technological needs. In this full-time position, you will lead the current team in daily assignments, including monitoring progress while maintaining accountability. You will play a critical role in designing, implementing, and maintaining MBS’s network infrastructure, including core routers, aggregation switches, data center infrastructure, VoIP networks, security systems, and transport networks. This position requires frequent in-office visits. RESPONSIBILITIES:

Design & Deployment:

Designs, installs, and operates all voice, video, data, core, and FTTH network and server infrastructure within the Elevate Internet's service provider network. Network Monitoring:

Continuously monitor network performance and resolve issues to maintain optimal performance, capacity, and uptime. Establish and maintain IP-Transit and peering connectivity with selected content providers. Research & Evaluation:

Research, evaluate, and recommend telecommunication equipment/appliances to support growth, enhance existing systems, and develop new products and services for MBS and its subscribers. Capacity Forecasting:

Monitor network link capacity and forecast areas for future expansion. Network Troubleshooting:

Troubleshoot broadband systems including routing/switching equipment, transport equipment, DHCP, DNS & DDOS servers, and IP voice switching equipment. Security Management:

Implement and uphold network security measures in collaboration with the IT & Security Supervisor, including firewalls and VPNs, to protect network integrity. Collaboration:

Work with the IT team to develop and execute network improvements and optimization initiatives. Documentation:

Maintain thorough documentation of network configurations, changes, and standard procedures. Performance Testing:

Conduct network performance tests and participate in capacity planning to ensure scalability, including software upgrades, while considering and mitigating customer impact. Technology Updates:

Stay abreast of the latest networking technologies and industry trends to inform strategic decisions and provide leading-edge products and services to MBS’s customers. On-Call Support:

Manage the on-call rotation for after-hours network support, including outages. QUALIFICATIONS:

Bachelor’s degree in network engineering, Computer Science, or a closely related field. Preference given for a minimum of two (2) years’ experience in the telecommunications industry. Proficient in network routing and switching technologies including VLANs, BGP, ISIS, MPLS, L2VPN, OSPF, DNS, and DHCP. Proven understanding of TCP/IPv4 and IPv6, network hardware, network design, and troubleshooting. Effective verbal and written communication skills for diverse audiences and settings. Experience with PON, Active Ethernet, Edge, Juniper, Core, Access networks, and FTTH hardware is preferred. BENEFITS:
