The

Histotech II

performs routine and non-routine activities involved in preparing slides for microscopic evaluation by pathologists, following policies and procedures. Works under supervision, following standard procedures and instructions. Must understand equipment, maintenance, and processes. Participates in continuing education and training sessions. Key Responsibilities

Performs routine histology tasks including specimen processing, embedding, slide preparation, microtomy, staining, and immunohistochemistry. Maintains specimen integrity and correct patient labeling. Prepares special stains and solutions. Verifies surgical case numbers match, and prints labels accordingly. Records all slides and stains in lab logbooks and logs information into the computer system. Performs equipment maintenance and troubleshooting, documents repairs or repeated tests. Follows safety protocols and adheres to quality control policies, documenting activities. Ensures compliance with local, federal, CLIA, and CAP regulations. Maintains attendance and punctuality. Qualifications

Knowledge / Experience

High School diploma or equivalent. HT/HTL (ASCP) certification. At least 3 years of experience in an anatomical pathology lab. Understanding of equipment like microtomes and stainers. Ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment. Professional demeanor with physicians and lab staff. Flexible schedule; overtime may be required. Manual dexterity and sterile techniques. Exposure to hazardous materials is possible. Good visual acuity and analytical skills. Ability to stand or sit for long periods and perform repetitive motions. Ability to lift up to 30 pounds. Potential exposure to extreme temperatures, noise, fumes, and biohazards. Handling of blood-borne pathogens and human specimens may be required.
