The Senior Computational Scientist is integral to our research-facing support team at the Regenstrief Center for Healthcare Engineering (RCHE). This role will facilitate the use of large-scale research computing systems in research and provide the researchers with computational tools and expertise needed to address questions raised by cutting-edge research. This position will also utilize creativity and innovation to solve computing problems raised by researchers. This position will collaborate with other staff, campus researchers, and national partners to implement novel computing and data technologies. This position will also diagnose a wide range of computing problems and design, code, test, debug, install, document, and maintain complex programs. The Senior Computational Scientist will conduct regular training workshops for researchers on computational tools and participate in national computing activities by attending workshops, and conferences and potentially presenting research.

Duties & Responsibilities Consult with researchers to identify and determine research computing requirements based on their unique research needs by conducting detailed analysis to define system scope, objectives, and implementation options. Utilize creativity and innovation to solve computing problems raised by researchers by devising and/or modifying procedures considering advanced computing resource capacity and limitation. Design and lead the development of procedures to streamline the scientific process, reduce application and data "bottlenecks," and improve workflow. Test, debug, and install scientific applications. Create deployment plans, communication plans, and timelines for updates. Write reports regarding test results. Develop system and programming documentation for users and other programmers in accordance with internal and external standards and train researchers and programmers as required. Work with software vendors on issues related to the installation of their products, technical support, license management, and product updates. Conduct regular training workshops for researchers on computational tools. Provide mentoring for junior staff or students. Qualifications

Required: Master’s degree in engineering, math, physical or life sciences, computer science, or related field. Two (2) years of experience in one or more of the following:

Developing parallel computing applications, libraries, or software tools. Working with researchers to integrate computing techniques into research activities. Using common HPC programming languages, tools, and techniques including Fortran and/or C/C++, MPI, OpenMP, CUDA. Equivalent combinations of education and experience will be considered. Ability to work on a diverse team. Knowledge of Linux operating system. Knowledge of scripting languages, i.e. Shell. Knowledge of version control software, i.e. GIT. Ability to plan, organize, and prioritize tasks and complete projects with minimal supervision.

Preferred: Ph.D. in related field. Experience with health care related data such as electronic health records, PACS medical imaging, or wearable devices. Knowledge of HIPAA rules and data security. Knowledge of commercial and public domain software packages and tools; good verbal and written English communication skills including the ability to consult with researchers.
