Talascend is currently seeking a Senior Plant Designer for a long-term contract role working a hybrid schedule in Bellevue, WA.

Our client in the Nuclear industry is seeking a highly capable and motivated Mechanical Designer. In this role, you will create structural and mechanical design solutions, 3D CAD models, and engineering drawings for the conceptual and preliminary design development of advanced Generation IV nuclear reactors. Candidates must have extensive experience in mechanical/structural design and drafting using a mainstream CAD system. Responsibilities

Develop and maintain AutoCAD Plant 3D based design projects. Produce or incorporate 3D CAD models from other 3D software to facilitate design evolution and derivative creation. Ensure and maintain configuration control of models/drawings. Use model configurations to support analysis needs, such as: Structural, Neutronics, Thermal-Hydraulic, Radiological, Safety, etc. Collaborate with process engineers and discipline leads to develop process flow diagrams (PFDs) and piping & instrumentation diagrams (P&IDs). Create and review engineering drawings including equipment arrangements, piping arrangements, isometrics, layouts, details, interface control, etc. Leverage the AutoCAD Plant 3D database to produce engineering lists for equipment, lines, instrumentation, bills of material, etc. Check and review drawings for accuracy and conformance to standards such as ASME 14.1, Y14.5, and TerraPower drafting standards via electronic redline process. Document design progress, changes, and decisions via TerraPower’s online collaboration platforms. Maintain a model review file for engineers and staff using software like Autodesk Navisworks. Create lists such as Equipment Lists, Bill of Materials, Instrument Lists, Valve Lists, and Line Lists. Key Qualifications and Skills

Trade School or Associate Degree. 10 years of relevant design experience. Proficiency in Autodesk AutoCAD Plant 3D and Navisworks. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to work on multiple tasks with minimal supervision. Organized, detail-oriented, with excellent communication skills. High trustworthiness, integrity, and team-oriented attitude. Experience with plant layout, piping layout, PFD, and P&ID creation. Experience checking fabrication drawings. Knowledge of Design for Manufacturability (DFM) and Design for Assembly (DFA). Experience in Mechanical and Machine Design. Nuclear equipment design experience is preferred but not required.
