POSITION SUMMARY:
The Additive Engineer designs for additive manufacturing and operation of metal 3D printers using SolidWorks. Work with a cross functional team of engineering, sales and customer support developing and executing a business plan to achieve growth in the 3D printing market.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
Be an active contributor within a team of engineers who perform the design, development, and testing of all facets of the additive process
Assess AM part candidates for material and equipment selection, manufacturability, design optimization, and how all those relate to a parts business case
Generate optimized designs and build files to produce high quality parts in minimum time with maximum consistency
Work with other engineers to help refine the design of existing parts and optimize new parts to leverage additive technology
Work with Materials Engineers to investigate properties, geometric accuracy, and surface finish to develop optimal print parameters, heat treatments, and design allowables for existing and new alloys
Ability to handle multiple competing projects simultaneously
Ability to analyze complex problems, develop innovative solutions, and deal with ambiguity and frequent changes in priorities is required
Create reports and materials to support company projects and activities
Participate in continuous improvement projects and ISO 9001 type activities
Support customer sales development activities via technical exchanges and communications
Design and Detail molds, models and fixtures
Communicates with outside customers
Housekeeping in the Additive Rooms
Specify additive materials
Read and understand blueprints and drawings
Has an intimate working knowledge of multiple powder bed additive manufacturing machines
Utilize six-sigma quality tools, when appropriate, to define, measure, analyze, improve and control processes and outcomes.
Responsible to maintain & support processes, procedures & K.P.I.’s owned by your position.

SKILL REQUIREMENTS:
Well organized and strong verbal communication skills
QUALIFICATIONS:
BS Degree in Mechanical, Aeronautical, Material Science or Civil Engineering from an ABET accredited university is required.
2-5+ years experience with additive machines (powder bed or binder jetting a plus), including parameter development and process control
Experience with additive simulation software
Experience with topology optimization software
2+ years of experience in Siemens NX, or similar 3D CAD software is required
Hands-on experience with various additive and subtractive manufacturing and joining techniques for metals and polymers
Experience with composites, high volume manufacturing processes, material science, and/or biomimicry desirable
Able to work well in an integrated collaborative team environment
Highly self-motivated and able to prioritize and execute tasks in a high-pressure environment
Superior organizational skills, analytical skills as well as time management and prioritization abilities
High level of confidentiality required
Excellent written and verbal communication skills and ability to interact with different levels of management and teams
Passionate about rapid prototyping and 3D Printing
Meticulous attention to detail
Independent and demonstrated an ability to deliver successful designs under tight timing constraints
Basic computer skills including Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook
Customer service / interaction experience
Proficient GD&T knowledge and the ability to think 3-Dimensionally
Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays
Valid Driver’s License and able to pass full background check and drug testing
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
The performance of this position will require exposure to the manufacturing areas where all areas require the use of personal protective equipment such as safety glasses, hearing protection, steel toe shoes, and other mandatory safety equipment.
For the most part, ambient temperatures with typical plant lighting and manufacturing equipment are present throughout the facility.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Visual acuity (corrected) to read directions and drawings and to inspect machined parts closely
Manual dexterity sufficient to operate machinery for precision work
Able to lift 35 lbs. independently
Walking primarily on a level surface for periodic periods throughout the day.
Reaching above shoulder height, below the waist, or lifting as required to reach documents or store materials throughout the workday.
Proper lifting techniques required.
Ability and comfortability to work in small confine spaces while following proper safety protocol.
Ability to accomplish the physical requirements of the position with or without reasonable accommodation.
