November 2020 PRIMARY PURPOSE:
Ride buses and assist drivers to provide safe and orderly transportation of students. QUALIFICATIONS:
Education/Certification:
High school diploma or GED Valid Texas driver’s license Special Knowledge/Skills: Ability to follow verbal instructions and communicate effectively Ability to operate safety and adaptive equipment Ability to work well with children Experience:
Experience preferred but not required MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:
Assist in loading and unloading students according to their individual needs. Maintain discipline and report student discipline problems to the appropriate administrator. Assume responsibilities for learning and adapting to each student’s medical, physical, communicative, and emotional needs. Communicate with teachers and parents daily about student behavior on the bus. Follow emergency procedures and help the driver administer first aid if necessary. Stay current with Special Needs training. Operate equipment according to established safety procedures. Maintain regular attendance; report to work at the designated site as per schedule. Help the driver keep the bus clean. Assist substitute drivers with route directions and student stop locations. Comply with district policies and procedures. Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor. Duties may include driving district vehicles such as cars and suburban for student transportation and other operational tasks. EQUIPMENT USED:
Wheelchair lift, ramp, lock, and special needs adaptive equipment WORKING CONDITIONS:
Mental Demands:
Maintain emotional control, communicate effectively, and manage groups of students. Physical Demands/Environmental Factors:
Frequent walking, stooping, bending, kneeling, pushing, pulling; moderate lifting (>40 lbs.), climbing, and turning of head and shoulders. Work outdoors and indoors around machinery and vehicles; exposure to extreme temperatures and vehicle fumes.
