Description

Sterile Services Co. (SSC) is hiring Claims Appeals Specialists to support FEMA's Fire Assistance Act Claims Office. These specialists will evaluate disaster-related personal and property loss claims. Ideal candidates will have at least 5 years of experience in claims processing, preferably involving disaster losses. Key responsibilities include interpreting federal policies, assessing damages, and delivering strong customer service. Multiple positions are available, with work starting this summer.

Candidates must be within commuting distance of Santa Fe, NM or willing to deploy. Hotels and per diem will be provided to those candidates who deploy.

Requirements

Review claims packages for completeness, eligibility, and consistency with FEMA policies. Analyze and apply relevant federal regulations and guidance in claim determinations. Identify missing or inconsistent data and collaborate with claimants or intake staff to resolve. Draft clear, policy-aligned justification narratives for approvals or denials. Document case actions in FEMA claims management systems or SSC equivalents. Communicate with FEMA staff, claimants, and other stakeholders in a professional and timely manner. Track and manage assigned workload to meet performance timelines and quality expectations. Maintain strict confidentiality and compliance with federal data protection standards. Required Qualifications

High School Diploma. Associate's or Bachelor's degree preferred Requires 5+ years of experience Required Competencies

Policy Interpretation: Ability to read, apply, and explain complex federal statutes, regulations, and claims policies. Technical Knowledge: Understanding of property loss evaluation, documentation standards, and relevant claims review practices. Administrative Proficiency: Accurate data entry, electronic file management, and records tracking. Communication: Clear writing, verbal communication, and tactful engagement with distressed or confused claimants. Technology: Proficient with claims systems, case management tools, and Microsoft Office Suite. Preferred Qualifications

FEMA, NFIP, or disaster recovery experience. Familiarity with the Hermit's Peak/Calf Canyon Fire Assistance Act Spanish language proficiency (preferred but not required)

Salary Description

$60,000-$85,000
