Site Reliability Engineer (SRE), Data Platform – Apple Maps

Role Overview
The Data Platform SRE Engineers work closely with internal Maps development teams to deliver robust infrastructure. They understand customer needs to propose and architect suitable technology solutions, ensuring seamless user experiences. Their responsibilities include collaborating across functions, integrating technological advancements, validating features, and improving incident management processes and runbooks. They foster a culture of innovation and open discussion.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science or related field with 10+ years of relevant experience.
- Expertise in designing, deploying, and scaling big data systems with open-source technologies such as Apache Spark, Flink, Trino, Iceberg, and object storage solutions like S3.
- Deep knowledge of Linux internals, system tuning, and network performance optimization.
- Experience with high-availability deployments, disaster recovery, and SLA-driven services.
- Proven success in leading platform modernization and migration at scale.
- Strong experience with Kubernetes (or AWS EKS), Python scripting, configuration management, and observability tools.
- Ability to engage with senior stakeholders to define strategies and guide technical transitions.
Preferred Qualifications
- Strong ownership and integrity, demonstrated through communication and results.
- Passion for automating workflows and reducing manual processes via scripting.
- Exceptional incident response and troubleshooting skills, capable of hypothesis testing under pressure.
- Experience with virtualized environments, EBS/S3 storage, and platform reliability.
- Familiarity with Git for configuration management and deployment infrastructure.
- Supportive approach to assisting application developers without changing source code.
Compensation and Benefits
The base pay range for this role is $175,800 to $312,200, determined by skills, qualifications, experience, and location.
