Department Summary
EchoStar seeks an innovative and strategic Director of Data Platforms and Insights to lead the evolution of our data infrastructure and business intelligence ecosystem. This role will drive platform transformation by embedding AI capabilities to enhance processes, optimize workflows, and enable advanced analytics. Based in Englewood, CO, the Director will oversee platform innovation, stability, and user-centric data services, ensuring seamless access to high-quality, virtualized data for analysts, data scientists, and decision-makers.

Job Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Provide leadership to data platform and business intelligence teams, fostering a culture of innovation.
  2. Define and implement a 2025 strategy to enhance data discovery and trust.
  3. Oversee the design and development of AI-powered data automation tools, including ETL pipelines and data transformation.
  4. Manage platform infrastructure to support virtualized, metadata-rich data access, reducing reliance on local copies.
  5. Champion AI-driven BI tools, such as Tableau Plus, for dashboards, visualization, and reporting.
  6. Establish project management frameworks for high-quality, on-time, and within-budget solutions.
  7. Collaborate with teams to align data services with business needs.
  8. Advocate for data governance, ensuring metadata, ownership, quality, and lineage transparency.
  9. Lead enterprise initiatives for data-driven decision-making and automation via AI technologies.
  10. Mentor team members to stay ahead of trends in AI, data engineering, and cloud platforms.
  11. Foster an innovation mindset, focusing on automation and process optimization.

Skills, Experience, and Requirements

  1. Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Data Engineering, or related field.
  2. 15+ years leading data platform and BI organizations with a focus on AI-driven innovation or automation.
  3. Strong knowledge of data warehouse technologies like Databricks, Snowflake, AWS.
  4. Expertise in automating data engineering tasks using CI/CD, Airflow, DevOps.
  5. Experience with virtualized data platforms, metadata management, data lineage, quality.
  6. Success in improving data accessibility, discovery, and trust.
  7. Understanding of data visualization/reporting platforms, especially Tableau.
  8. Excellent leadership, communication, collaboration skills.
  9. Experience with agile methodologies.

Preferred Qualifications

  1. Master’s degree in related fields.
  2. Experience with AWS Redshift, Glue, Lake Formation, Databricks Delta.
  3. Hands-on with Spark, Python, SQL, Hadoop.
  4. Knowledge of data governance, metadata, data quality frameworks.
  5. Familiarity with AI operations, scalable model deployment, monitoring.
  6. Experience managing project budgets, vendor relationships, MSAs/SOWs.

Salary Range

Compensation: $185,000 - $225,000/year
