Alchemy Global Talent Solutions is proud to be supporting a market-leading organisation in their search for a Director of Machine Learning based inCalifornia. This is an exciting opportunity for an accomplished AI/ML leader to drive strategic innovation and lead high-impact projects at the forefront of machine learning technology.

You will be responsible for directing a team of machine learning engineers and scientists, shaping the ML roadmap, and working closely with cross-functional teams to develop and deploy scalable AI solutions across the enterprise.

Key Responsibilities:

• Define and execute the strategic direction for machine learning initiatives aligned with business objectives.
• Lead and mentor a high performing team of ML engineers and data scientists, fostering technical excellence and collaboration.
• Manage the complete lifecycle of ML models from design to deployment, ensuring performance, scalability, and compliance.
• Partner with data, product, and engineering teams to integrate AI solutions across key platforms and services.
• Design and implement state-of-the-art ML models, including deep learning, generative modelling, and large language models.
• Champion coding and engineering best practices, including MLOps, reproducibility, and responsible AI.
• Stay current with industry trends and emerging technologies to assess applicability within the organisation.
• Represent the AI/ML function externally at scientific and industry events, as well as through publications and thought leadership.

Requirements:

• MSc or PhD in Computer Science, Engineering, Data Science, or a related discipline.
• A minimum of 8 years’ experience in machine learning, with proven success in a leadership capacity.
• Deep expertise in ML methodologies and frameworks (e.g. TensorFlow, PyTorch, scikit-learn).
• Strong Python programming skills, with experience in developing scalable, production-grade ML systems.
• Effective team management and mentoring capabilities.
• Ability to engage with senior stakeholders and communicate complex concepts clearly.
• Experience within a regulated or data-sensitive industry (e.g. biotechnology, life sciences, healthcare, or financial services) is beneficial.
