Senior Trajectory Analyst - Flight Safety
Blue Origin is seeking a Senior Trajectory Analyst to support the development and operations of New Glenn, a reusable heavy-lift orbital launch vehicle. This role involves performing launch vehicle trajectory modelling and flight safety analysis, ensuring compliance with public risk requirements, and maturing analysis methodologies for spaceflight systems.
Responsibilities include:
- Generating data products to inform flight safety system rules and limits.
- Proposing trajectory shaping modifications to improve availability or safety.
- Coordinating with regulatory and oversight entities such as the FAA.
- Contributing to mission design and trajectory optimization analyses.
Minimum Qualifications:
- B.S. in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering or related field.
- 8+ years in trajectory or flight safety analysis.
- Strong fundamentals in flight mechanics/dynamics and aerospace vehicle simulation.
- Experience with statistical/probabilistic analysis.
- Experience creating 3-DOF and/or 6-DOF trajectory models.
- Proficiency with trajectory analysis tools like POST, OTIS, TTK, RRAT, TAOS, STK Astrogator, or Copernicus.
- U.S. citizenship or legal U.S. residency status.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience in quantitative risk assessment, including debris risk modeling.
- Familiarity with launch licensing processes and regulations.
- Experience with explosive modeling and estimation.
- Proficiency in MATLAB, Python, or similar scripting languages.
Compensation varies by location, e.g., for Washington state applicants, range is $177,857.00-$248,999.10.
