Overview
Provide technical support to the Office of Under Secretary of Defense for Research and Engineering (OUSD(R&E)) to conduct rigorous mission engineering activities. The goal is to identify and prioritize investments in capabilities that meet current and future warfighting needs, close warfighting gaps, and enable Joint Force interoperability and integration. Utilize modeling and simulation (M&S) tools and advanced techniques to develop and analyze critical Joint Mission Engineering Threads (METs) / “Kill Webs” in operational scenarios, aiding DoD leaders in making informed technology investment decisions.
Responsibilities
- Apply professional knowledge of scientific and engineering concepts, principles, phenomena, and relationships to assess requirements, design engineered solutions, and develop design plans, specifications, cost estimates, and procurement packages supporting the operation, maintenance, and repair of mechanical, electrical, plumbing, utility, and mission-critical systems and equipment.
- Design and execute quantitative mission-level modeling and simulation analyses to assess system performance, trade-offs, and impacts within defense or military contexts.
- Use mission-level digital tools such as AFSIM to develop models for scenarios, missions, and systems; perform data post-processing including extraction, transformation, statistical analysis, and visualization; and debug simulation models to resolve software, scripting, or logic errors.
- Experience with mission architecture (mission threads), kill chains, kill webs, and integrating models to represent DoD system-of-systems performance across domains such as space, air, maritime, land, and cyber.
Qualifications
- Minimum 15 years of experience, including:
- At least 7 years in designing and executing quantitative mission-level modeling and simulation analyses within defense or military areas, including development and data post-processing of models, and debugging simulation software.
- Demonstrated experience with mission architecture, kill chains, kill webs, and integrating models for DoD system-of-systems performance across multiple domains.
- Education: Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Mathematics, or related discipline.
