The Opportunity
We’re seeking a confident and entrepreneurial Senior Associate Counsel to join the legal team of a fast-growing legaltech company transforming how law firms identify and act on mass harm. This is a full-time, direct-hire position based in New York City with a hybrid schedule (three days onsite: Monday, Tuesday, Thursday). The role offers competitive base compensation and meaningful equity from day one.
This is not your typical commercial counsel role—you’ll be embedded within a highly innovative business model where every deal is custom, dynamic, and connected to the monetization of legal claims. You’ll partner closely with the revenue and operations teams to negotiate strategic partnerships with plaintiffs’ firms and support unique litigation funding-style agreements. Your counsel will help shape how groundbreaking legal AI products come to market.
This is an ideal fit for a thoughtful and collaborative attorney with 6+ years of experience in commercial counseling, particularly those who have worked in fast-moving, regulated environments like fintech, digital health, or emerging tech.
About the Client
Our client is a mission-driven legaltech company using cutting-edge AI to uncover hidden legal violations that impact people at scale—from consumer protection to environmental justice. The company partners with leading plaintiffs’ firms to bring those cases to court, and its funding model offers both legal innovation and meaningful access to justice.
Location: New York City (hybrid – 3 days onsite: Monday, Tuesday, Thursday)
Hiring Model: Direct hire
Schedule: Full-time
Start Date: Flexible, ideally Summer 2025
Compensation: $200,000 base salary + equity options
Benefits: Full-time employee benefits, including stock options and annual performance reviews
Responsibilities
- Advise the sales and business development teams in structuring and negotiating unique commercial arrangements with plaintiffs’ law firms
- Support monetization agreements (akin to litigation finance) involving upfront payments and contingent return structures
- Maintain and evolve commercial templates, playbooks, and contracting workflows
- Assist with legal compliance and implementation of operational processes
- Counsel on ethics and professional responsibility matters, including conflicts and interactions with ABA guidelines
- Serve as a business-oriented problem solver and strategic partner to revenue, legal, and executive teams
Qualifications
- 6+ years of legal experience, with a strong focus on commercial contracts or in-house counseling
- Background in a fast-paced, regulated environment preferred (e.g., fintech, healthcare, emerging tech)
- Significant sell-side contracting experience
- Exceptional business judgment, curiosity, and comfort with ambiguity
- Clear communicator with a bias toward action and ownership
- Bar membership in at least one U.S. jurisdiction is required
