We are seeking an experienced and strategic Business Development Director to expand our presence in the power market. This role focuses on building trust-based relationships with electric utilities, independent power producers, and grid operators to drive growth across strategy, transformation, planning, digital, and security services. The ideal candidate will have deep industry knowledge, a strong professional network, and a proven ability to develop and implement account growth strategies.
Key Responsibilities
- Market Growth & Strategy: Develop and execute targeted account growth strategies focused on power customers in specific geographic markets. Identify and cultivate new business opportunities with existing and prospective clients. Drive pipeline development and revenue growth by aligning 1898 & Co.'s offerings with customer needs.
- Client Engagement & Relationship Management: Build and maintain trusted advisor relationships with decision-makers across utilities, regulatory bodies, and industry organizations. Lead high-impact client meetings, industry presentations, and strategic engagements. Represent 1898 & Co. at conferences, trade shows, and industry events to enhance brand presence.
- Cross-Team Collaboration: Partner with consulting, engineering, and other delivery teams to meet client needs with high-quality solutions. Collaborate closely with delivery teams, marketing, and senior leadership throughout the sales cycle. Align business development efforts with Burns & McDonnell’s global practices to maximize opportunities.
- Sales Process & CRM Utilization: Manage the entire sales process from lead generation to contract negotiation. Use CRM systems to track opportunities, client engagements, and contact records. Provide market intelligence to inform service development and strategic decisions.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering, business, economics, finance, or related field.
- Minimum of 13 years experience in consulting, owner/operator, business development, or sales within the power sector.
- Proactive and organized approach.
- Proven track record of developing and executing strategic sales plans and exceeding revenue targets.
- Strong understanding of electric and gas utility operations, including transmission, distribution, and power generation (preferred).
- Excellent communication and executive relationship management skills.
- Experience navigating regulatory frameworks, energy policies, and market trends in the utility sector (preferred).
- Willingness to travel up to 75% for client engagement and industry events.
Compensation & Benefits
Salary range: $220,000 - $420,000 annually. Compensation includes base salary and potential year-end incentive bonuses, based on experience and location.
