Overview

Burns & McDonnell's Transmission & Distribution Global Practice is seeking a dynamic and driven engineering Project Manager for our Northeast Region. This key role involves managing and overseeing the successful execution of high-impact projects, driving business growth with an entrepreneurial mindset and strong leadership. Responsibilities include ensuring project profitability and quality, timely completion, and fostering positive relationships with clients, subcontractors, and industry peers. The candidate will also contribute to expanding our business portfolio by identifying new opportunities, managing multiple projects across clients, and growing the T&D business profitably within the Northeast, aligned with our core values of safety, client satisfaction, commitment, dedication, integrity, and service excellence. This position offers leadership opportunities, regional growth support, and contribution to long-term strategic planning.

Candidate Profile

The ideal candidate is an engineering project manager with design experience, extensive industry background, and strong leadership skills. They should possess a solid understanding of project financials, scope, schedule, and risk management, with a successful track record. Experience managing engineering projects for major accounts with large, multidisciplinary teams is essential.

Business Line Experience

We seek candidates with experience in one or more of the following areas:

  • Substation: Design and construction of electrical substations for utilities, municipalities, co-ops, developers, and energy suppliers, focusing on equipment like transformers and circuit breakers.
  • Networks, Integration & Automation: Design and implementation of data flow and control solutions for power utilities, involving automation, networking, wireless, and fiber systems.
  • Overhead Transmission: Design of high-voltage transmission lines (40kV to 500kV), including knowledge of electrical studies, structural design, hardware, and foundation solutions.
  • Underground & Submarine Cables: Specialization in underground and submarine electrical systems, addressing complex design and construction challenges.

Major Responsibilities

  • Planning, budgeting, and achieving project objectives.
  • Ensuring safety, quality, and profitability of projects.
  • Managing projects from concept to completion, including siting, permitting, planning, procurement, and material management.
  • Coordinating with project teams and clients to meet deliverables and expectations.
  • Identifying opportunities, preparing proposals, and negotiating contracts.
  • Supporting business development efforts and proposal writing.
  • Monitoring project financials, staffing, legal issues, and risks.
  • Developing project policies, procedures, and controls.
  • Providing regular project updates on progress, costs, risks, and issues.

Additional Responsibilities

  • Managing key client relationships.
  • Conducting design quality reviews.
  • Providing staff performance feedback and supporting staff development.
  • Mentoring other project managers and supporting recruitment efforts.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering from an accredited institution.
  • At least 7 years of engineering design and project management experience.
  • Strong leadership, strategic thinking, and change management skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to travel; valid driver’s license required.

Preferred Qualifications

  • 10+ years of relevant experience.
  • Professional Engineering (PE) license preferred.
  • Project Management Professional (PMP) certification or advanced degree.

Compensation & Benefits
