Chief of Child Neurology
The University of Rochester Medical Center (URMC), Department of Neurology, is seeking a Division Chief of Child Neurology to oversee the growth of the division’s established programs and expand its management across URMC and affiliated sites. The Division Chief will also hold the title of Frederick A. Horner M.D. Distinguished Professor in Pediatric Neurology.
The incoming leader will participate in direct patient care and play a key role in advancing the clinical, research, and educational missions of the University of Rochester Medical Center and the Department of Neurology. The Chief will work closely with research center leadership to foster clinical and translational research and must be committed to promoting a culture of inclusion through recruitment, education, and mentorship of faculty, staff, residents, and fellows.
The Division of Child Neurology provides leading-edge neurological care, combining advanced subspecialty expertise with innovative treatments, emphasizing access, quality, and excellence. The division currently has 22 faculty physicians, 2 neuropsychologists, 1 genetic counselor, 7 advanced practice providers, 3 nurses, 2 research coordinators, a dietitian, and a social worker, offering multidisciplinary care at the Golisano Children’s Hospital . They serve a catchment area extending beyond Pennsylvania into Vermont and beyond Buffalo, with approximately 10,000 outpatient visits annually.
The division collaborates closely with the Departments of Neurology and Pediatrics, with subspecialty programs including movement disorders, neuromuscular disease, epilepsy, neurogenetics, neurodevelopmental disabilities, neurocritical care, and more. It is the largest Child Neurology program in NY State, providing care for patients with neurological and rare diseases nationally and internationally.
URMC investigators lead in experimental therapeutics, rare disease research, gene therapy trials, and training early investigators. They support programs for diseases such as Batten’s, SMA, Duchenne muscular dystrophy, and others. Collaborations with institutes like the Del Monte Neuroscience Institute and the Center for Translational Neuromedicine support cutting-edge clinical trials, including first-in-disease studies.
Education is central to the department. The Child Neurology Residency program has recently expanded and is highly ranked nationwide. The division supports numerous subspecialty fellowships, often combined with research training supported by NINDS T32 programs.
Qualifications
- MD degree or equivalent
- NY State Medical licensure before starting
- Eligible for faculty appointment at the University of Rochester School of Medicine and Dentistry
- Board Certified in Neurology with Special Qualifications in Child Neurology
- Post-offer drug screen and health assessment required
- Criminal background check required
- Compliance with university and NY State health requirements
Academic rank and salary are commensurate with qualifications and experience.
