Job DescriptionThe Mechanic B Welder supports the Mechanic A and higher titles in various maintenance functions in the power plant including electrical, mechanical and welding.ResponsibilitiesCore Responsibilities The Mechanic B will pursue a career path qualifying as the senior title in that career path. Mechanic B's should be willing to further welding skills as required by the department. Mechanic B's are responsible for Interpreting welding specifications, standards and procedures and working independently to complete assignments. Perform welding tasks and various mechanical duties on live steam, gas and electric facilities. Mechanic B Welder will work on mechanical equipment by maintaining, repairing and installing power piping systems, associated valves, tanks and vessels and various types of rotating mechanical equipment such as fans, blowers, pumps, motors, etc. using various field power tools and precision measuring equipment.QualificationsRequired Education/Experience High School Diploma/GED and Minimum 3 years related work experience with at least 2 years of welding experience and qualified in API1104 (Welding)Preferred Education/Experience Knowledge in the following areas: confined space entry, pipe fitting, oxy-acetylene torch cutting, rigging, scaffolding, mechanical drawing, boiler tube repair, math and industrial safety, machine shop, scaffolding, crane operation and welding (GTAW, SMAW).Relevant Work Experience Must be qualified or be willing to take and pass a brazing qualification test. (Welding) Required Must be qualified or be willing to take and pass an Inconel metal welding test. (Welding) Required 2 years' of welding experience and qualified in API1104 (Welding) Required Obtain both the New York State and New York City Asbestos Handler's License. - After Hire Required Possess New York FDNY burning and fireguard license. Preferred Must be qualified or be willing to take and pass a forklift driving test. PreferredLicenses and Certifications Driver's License RequiredPhysical Demands Ability to respond to system emergencies Able to work in all weather conditions, i.e. excessive heat and/or cold Perform extended driving through heavy traffic and severe off-road conditions Perform heavy manual labor, i.e. push, pull, and lift up to 50lbs Ability to carry tools and materials when climbing ladders and scaffolds, and entering confined spaces Ability to climb ladders and stairs Perform work in underground vaults through manholes Ability to work in inclement weather and adverse conditions (i.e., excessive heat, cold, noise, confined spaces) Ability to work with, and in, the vicinity of high voltage and/or other high-energy systems Ability to be approved to wear and use either a full or half-face respirator, without facial hair or other conditions that may interfere with the seal, in accordance with OSHA regulations Ability to climb in and out of manholes and excavations Stand, walk, and climb ladders and stairs for the duration of the workday Stand, walk, lift, climb, bend, kneel, stoop, and/or reach for the duration of the workday Ability to use hand tools and operate heavy machinery, i.e. jackhammers Ability to travel to company locations to work on storm restoration and heat contingencies Acknowledge that if selected, must pass a Physical Abilites Test (PAT) Wear necessary Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), i.e. fire-retardant clothing and safety harnesses Work with equipment with a manufacturer weight rating of 350lbs Use equipment with a maximum weight rating of 375lbs when wearing and/or carrying 25lbs of clothing and equipmentAdditional Physical Demands The selected candidate will be assigned a System Emergency Assignment (i.e., an emergency response role) and will be expected to work non-business hours during emergencies, which may include nights, weekends, and holidays. Must possess a valid driver's license and be capable of extensive driving of a welding truck.
