This position involves supporting day-to-day operations within the vivarium, including equipment preparation, sanitation, and animal care. The ideal candidate will have a strong commitment to animal welfare and regulatory compliance, with the ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment.Pay Range $30/hrPosition Vivarium Operations TechnicianSchedule Monday to Friday, 8am - 4:30pm (Flexible start time between 7:00-9:00 AM), occasional weekend availability required.ResponsibilitiesVivarium Cage Washing and Equipment Maintenance: Prepare cages, water bottles, and other materials for washing. Load and operate the cage washer, ensuring proper cycle selection. Unload and stock cleaned materials appropriately, following the barrier's high standards. Perform daily and routine maintenance and sanitation of vivarium areas. Maintain vivarium cleanliness and waste removal in accordance with applicable SOPs. Animal Husbandry and Care: Perform daily health and environmental checks for mice and report any concerns to Vivarium Operations Lead/Manager and Principal Investigators. Perform rodent cage changes and sanitation. Organize and maintain cage staging areas to optimize efficiency. Assist with clinical observations and basic veterinary care per veterinarian/protocol instructions, including weekend health checks when necessary. Receive animal shipments, assess animal health, and house animals appropriately. Coordinate the receipt of animal food, bedding, consumables, and caging materials, ensuring appropriate stock levels and organization. Facility Coordination and Maintenance:Interact with Facilities, vendors, and service/repair contractors to address any mechanical or facility issues.Supply and Equipment Management: Coordinate the receipt, storage, assembly (when needed), and decontamination of vivarium equipment and supplies per vivarium procedures. Must be able to occasionally lift and carry objects weighing up to 50 pounds Regulatory Compliance:Maintain compliance with IACUC (Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee) guidelines and The Guide for the Care and Use of Laboratory Animals, along with other relevant regulatory requirements.Vivarium Operations Assistance:Assist with other Vivarium Operations tasks as needed.RequirementsPreferred Skills Communication - Clear verbal and written communication with team members and clients. Qualifications High school diploma or GED is required. Bachelor of Science (BS) in Animal Science or Life Sciences is preferred. Minimum of 0-6 months of directly related laboratory animal experience in a laboratory animal facility is required. AALAS Certification at the ALAT (Assistant Laboratory Animal Technician) level is preferred. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be accepted as a satisfactory substitute for the specific education and experience listed above.
