JOB SUMMARY: Provides quality and efficient healthcare services to the medically complex pediatric patients which include acute and chronic care of inpatients of Ranken Jordan in collaboration with and supervision by the Chief Medical Officer, Medical Director, and Staff Physicians. Blood Borne Pathogen Exposure: YesSchedule:Three, 12-hour shifts a week and every 4th weekend from 7am-5pm12-hour shifts rotate between 7am-7pm and 9am-9pm1 winter holiday and 1 summer holidaySTANDARD AMaintains ability to perform the role of the Staff RN, meeting all performance criteria in established job category.The Nurse Practitioner (NP) will adhere to all duties and responsibilities set forth in the job description of the Staff RN. STANDARD BThe NP collaborates with the Staff Physicians to provide medical care to patients of Ranken Jordan. To have experience managing inpatient acute and chronic care of pediatric patients with medical complexity. To have knowledge and previous experience in complex respiratory conditions including tracheotomy and ventilator management, acute neurologic conditions including traumatic brain injuries and spinal cord injuries, care for severely premature infants, wound care management including negative pressure dressings, and patients with major multilevel orthopedic injuries.The scope of practice of a NP shall consist of the following services and procedures, which are consistent with their level of skill, education, training, and competence as set forth in Collaborative Practice Agreement with Staff Physicians:Take patient histories, perform physical examinations, perform assessments and treatment for acutely or chronically ill or injured patients and document this information in the medical record.Formulate appropriate differential diagnoses based on history, physical examination, and clinical findings.Order, conduct, and interpret, with physician input, appropriate diagnostic and laboratory tests consistent with the patient's presentation. In the case of abnormal test results, the PNP shall consult with Staff Physician within appropriate timeframes.Identify, implement, and evaluate appropriate plan of care, including pharmacological and non-pharmacological interventions.Administer and prescribe prescription drugs (excluding the prescription of controlled substances) to patients consistent with the NP's education, training, competence, and scope of practice.Perform appropriate diagnostic and clinical procedures within the NP's advanced clinical nursing specialty area and consistent with the NP's skill, training, education and competence.Conduct preventive screening procedures based on age and historyProvide relevant patient/family education and counseling regarding healthy lifestyle behaviors. Education and counseling may include issues of diet, disease, treatment, discharge instructions, compliance with instructions and follow-up.Reassess and modify plan of care as necessary to achieve medical and health goals.Perform such other task, not prohibited by law, with the supervision of Staff Physician, which PNP has been trained to perform.Assess concerns from patients or staff and recommend appropriate treatment or refer questions outside the scope of knowledge to Staff Physician for collaboration.Consult with Staff Physician, or his/her designee, regarding treatment or referral of patients to appropriate specialist and/or hospital facility.In clinical situations that are beyond the education, training, competency, and scope of practice of NP, NP shall consult with Staff Physician regarding treatment or referral of patient.Knows and complies with Medical Staff Bylaws, Rules and Regulations and hospital policies and rules that are in compliance with federal and state laws.Completes medical record documentation and other records for all patients under his/her care according to hospital policy.Abides by generally recognized standards of professional ethics.Maintains personal and professional development through both formal and informal means. Participates in and presents at seminars and educational programs.Initiates, promotes, and participates in medical team studies and research.Keeps current on issues, practice and new trends related to health care, including acute care, pediatric complex care and health care administration.Participates in self-assessment.Satisfies the continuing education requirements established by the Medical Staff and licensure requirements. Plans, implements, and evaluates goals and objectives with the Chief Executive Officer/Chief Nurse Executive, Chief Medical Officer and Medical Director annually or on an ongoing basis as requested. Background RequisitesCurrent valid license issued by the State of Missouri as a registered professional nurse, completion of Master's of Science in Nursing and certification by the Missouri State Board of Nursing as an Advanced Practice Nurse.Read and understand the English language, communicates effectively and intelligibly in the English language (written and oral) and prepare medical record entries and other required documentation in a legible and professional manner.Current Basic Life Support from the American Heart Association.Current PALS certification from the American Heart Association Experience2-3 years as a nurse practitioner requiredPediatric Hospitalist or Pediatric ICU experience is preferredSkills/AbilitiesDocumentation evidencing an ongoing ability to provide patient care services consistent with acceptable standards of practice and available resources.Demonstrated ability to work with other Medical Staff members, hospital employees and administration, patients, families and visitors in a cooperative, professional manner that maintains and promotes an environment of quality patient care.Ability to work in a non-disruptive manner so as not to affect patient care adversely and to abide by generally recognized standards of professional ethics and/or code of conduct within their respective profession.Physical DemandsThese include stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, grasping, pulling, pushing, standing, carrying and lifting of light loads (up to 35 lb.) as necessary.
