Title: Senior Principal Engineer Segment: Schneider E&C
POSITION SUMMARY
This position is accountable for providing senior level design engineering expertise and oversite for marine and heavy civil structures for SEC clients and for Orion and its affiliates. Typical projects may include port facilities, liquid cargo terminals, bridges and causeways, container terminals, cruise terminals, bulkheads, docks, piers or marinas. The incumbent will typically work with Engineers and Project Management team members on a regular basis.
The incumbent must support the guiding beliefs and core values of Orion, which are centered on Safety, Quality, Delivery, and Teamwork most importantly, with each built upon the all-important foundation of Integrity .
SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Works closely with the VP of Engineering and Engineering and Design Team members to achieve departmental business goals and objectives.
  • Establishes Quality Control design reviews and review schedules for each SEC project and provide Quality Assurance documentation.
  • Serves as the lead internal consultant and technical advisor in all aspects the engineering and design process.
  • Serves as the lead interface with engineering & project team members and/or customer / client to obtain a thorough and comprehensive understanding of the engineering services being requested.
  • Serves as the technical specialist for the Company in the application of advanced engineering concepts, principals, and methods.
  • Keeps informed of new documents and requirements affecting the Company for the purpose of recommending changes in design, process, or application.
  • Interprets, organizes, executes, and coordinates all engineering assignments.
  • Plans, schedules, or coordinates the preparation of documents or activities for multiple major projects.
  • Reviews engineering procedures to ensure compliance with applicable policies and performance measures.
  • Applies knowledge and expertise acquired through progressive experience to resolve crucial issues and/or unique conditions.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS
A B.S. Degree in Civil Engineering/Construction Management or related discipline and a minimum of 15 years of experience, or equivalent work experience is required. Prior work experience in the marine construction or heavy industrial and manufacturing industries is preferred but not required. The incumbent must have a working knowledge of Project Management & Administration, Marine Construction Materials, Procurement, Estimating, Scheduling, Project Tracking Software, Cost Control, Engineering & Project Standards, and Safety & Environmental Compliance.
The incumbent must have the ability to quickly learn the technical aspects of the business; be an effective communicator; have the ability to interface well with employees at all levels of the organization; and have a high degree of personal integrity in their dealings with others.
Discretion and trustworthiness, and the ability to keep all Company information and materials strictly confidential (both internally and externally) are essential elements of this position.
Must be well organized, diligent, and be a self-starter with the ability to work with minimal supervision and to independently identify work to be done. Must be flexible and have the ability to adjust to sudden changes in work priorities. The incumbent must also have the ability to prioritize work generally and in order to accommodate those changes. Attention to detail and extreme care in performing tasks accurately and carefully are also essential.

PHYSICAL/MENTAL REQUIREMENTS
The incumbent must be able to perform the essential functions of the job with or without reasonable workplace accommodation.
The individual must also be able to wear and properly utilize appropriate personal protective equipment if required to work or visit the jobsite. This may include hard hat, safety glasses, respirators, ear plugs, steel-toed shoes, personal flotation devices, or other equipment as required by the work performed and location the work is being done.
The incumbent must possess the ability to remain calm during emergencies and respond appropriately as dictated by the circumstance of the incident and as directed by the Safety Representative or other management personnel. Must be capable of evacuating the work area in a timely manner should an emergency situation arise.
