Medical Assistant - Podiatry
This vital role involves providing comprehensive clinical and administrative support to our Podiatrist, ensuring efficient patient flow and exceptional care within a fast-paced podiatry practice.
Key Responsibilities:
- Patient Intake & Preparation: Escort patients to exam rooms, accurately obtain and document vital signs, medical history, and chief complaints specific to foot and ankle conditions.
- Assisting the Podiatrist: Prepare examination rooms, sterilize instruments, assist with minor surgical procedures (e.g., nail avulsions, wart removal, biopsies), bandage wounds, and apply dressings.
- Wound Care & Foot Health: Assist with routine foot care, wound care management, and educate patients on proper foot hygiene.
- Diagnostic Support: Prepare patients for X-rays or other diagnostic imaging, and assist with casting or orthotic impressions as directed.
- Administrative Duties: Schedule appointments, manage patient records, process referrals, answer phones, and handle basic billing inquiries as needed.
- Supply Management: Maintain inventory of medical supplies, instruments, and medications, ensuring all necessary items are stocked and properly organized.
- Sterilization & Infection Control: Adhere strictly to OSHA guidelines and maintain sterile technique for instrument cleaning and reprocessing.
- High school diploma or equivalent; Medical Assistant certification/diploma from an accredited program is required.
- Previous experience as a Medical Assistant, ideally within a podiatry, orthopedics, or dermatology setting, is highly preferred.
- Proficiency in taking vital signs, assisting with minor procedures, and basic wound care.
- Strong understanding of medical terminology, particularly related to podiatry (foot and ankle anatomy, common conditions).
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to empathize with patients experiencing foot pain or discomfort.
- Proficiency in using electronic health records (EHR) systems for charting and scheduling.
- Ability to multitask, prioritize, and remain organized in a busy clinical environment.
- Strict adherence to HIPAA regulations and patient confidentiality.
- Basic knowledge of instrument sterilization and infection control protocols.
