JOB TITLE: General Electrician
REPORTS TO: Maintenance Supervisor/Director of Transportation and Maintenance
ANNUAL CALENDAR DAYS: 243 (12 Months)
Position Summary: The General Electrician is responsible for performing skilled electrical installation, maintenance, and repair work throughout school buildings and facilities in accordance with state and national codes. The electrician ensures all systems operate safely and efficiently to support a secure and effective learning environment for students and staff.

Position Summary: The General Electrician is responsible for performing skilled electrical installation, maintenance, and repair work throughout school buildings and facilities in accordance with state and national codes. The electrician ensures all systems operate safely and efficiently to support a secure and effective learning environment for students and staff.
Key Responsibilities:
- Install, maintain, and repair electrical systems including lighting, power distribution, motors, generators, and control equipment.
- Diagnose and troubleshoot electrical issues using appropriate testing tools and techniques.
- Ensure compliance with the National Electrical Code (NEC) and State of Alabama Building Codes.
- Perform regular inspections and preventive maintenance of electrical systems and emergency equipment (exit signs, fire alarm circuits, etc.).
- Read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and technical documentation.
- Collaborate with HVAC, plumbing, and general maintenance personnel as needed on cross-discipline projects.
- Maintain accurate records of work orders, inspections, materials used, and repairs completed.
- Ensure adherence to Alabama State Department of Education and district-specific safety and reporting procedures.
- Respond to emergency maintenance requests during and outside normal work hours, including during severe weather or school closures if needed.

- High school diploma or GED.
- Valid State of Alabama Journeyman or Master Electrician License preferred not required.
- Valid Alabama driver's license with a clean driving record.
- Minimum of 3-5 years of electrical experience in a commercial or institutional setting; experience in a K-12 school system preferred.
- Working knowledge of current electrical systems, low-voltage systems (e.g., intercoms, PA systems), and energy management systems.
- Ability to lift, carry, and move heavy equipment (up to 50 lbs), work from ladders, and operate hand/power tools safely.
- Must pass a background check and meet all requirements under the Alabama State Department of Education employment guidelines.
- Experience with school safety systems, including fire alarms, security lighting, and generator systems.
- Familiarity with computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS).
- OSHA 10 or 30 certification.
