Responsible for developing and maintaining manufacturing methods and processes for machining, metal finishing, and assembly operations for assigned product lines/projects. Supports the introduction of new processes or process improvements to the production floor, ensuring timely introduction and adherence to safety and quality standards. Collaborates with cross-functional teams including Quality Engineering, Operations, and Product Development.

  • Creates conceptual designs for new fixtures, gages, and special cutting tools. Conducts tool design reviews with Tooling Team personnel, purchasing personnel, and outside tool suppliers.
  • Completes activities of the change control policy and Corrective and Preventive Action (CAPA) system in accordance with corporate standards.
  • Partners with Quality during risk management activities and may lead or actively participate in design reviews such as DFMEA & pFMEA.
  • Proactively executes and supports the development of validation/qualifications studies. Determines strategy with appropriate teams and ensures early involvement of groups in the engineering needs.
  • Develops manufacturing setup/process sheets for all machining, assembly, and finishing operations for new products.
  • Reviews engineering drawing changes and initiates appropriate changes in manufacturing tools, fixtures, processes, CNC programs, bills of material, or routings. Documents all changes through the Manufacturing Engineering process control system.
  • Resolves technical production problems on assigned product lines in machining, metal finishing, and assembly operations working with shop employees and quality personnel.
  • Initiates and directs improvements in current manufacturing methods and processes to enhance quality schedule performance and reduce manufacturing costs.
Top 3 Technical Skills Required
  • Demonstrated understanding of manufacturing, primarily on CNC turning and CNC grinding technologies. Ability to research and develop tools, processes, machines, and equipment to integrate facilities and systems for producing quality products economically and safely.
  • Ability to troubleshoot and resolve technical production problems on assigned product lines in machining, metal finishing, and assembly operations working with shop employees and quality personnel.
  • Competence in formal problem-solving methodology and process improvements.
Education Required
  • Four-year Degree in Engineering discipline and at least 5 years of relevant experience providing direct manufacturing process support.
  • OR Masters' Degree in Engineering discipline and at least 3 years of relevant experience providing direct manufacturing process support.

Responsibilities May Include
  • Designs manufacturing processes, procedures, and production layouts for assemblies, equipment installation, processing, machining, and material handling.
  • Designs arrangement of machines within plant facilities to ensure the most efficient and productive layout.
  • Designs sequence of operations and specifies procedures for the fabrication of tools and equipment and other functions affecting product performance.
  • Adapts machine or equipment design to factory and production conditions.
  • May incorporate inspection and test requirements into the production plan.
  • Inspects performance of machinery, equipment, and tools to verify efficiency and investigates and initiates corrective action of problems and deficiencies to ensure product quality.
  • Develops manufacturing processes applicable to statistical process control and may develop those techniques.
  • Provides guidance to engineering regarding design concepts and specification requirements to best utilize equipment and manufacturing techniques.
  • Ensures processes and procedures are in compliance with regulations.
