Position
Sacramento Area Sewer District (SacSewer) is currently accepting applications for an Mechanic I/II position. Applications will be screened after the following filing deadlines at 5PM:
7/28/25, 8/11/25(final)
The Mechanic is a single class with two salary levels. Positions in this class are flexibly staffed and the level at which appointments are made is at the discretion of the appointing authority. Incumbents in this class are expected to learn and become proficient in maintaining and repairing mechanical equipment and systems including operation of lift and pump stations.
Mechanic I is the trainee level class in the Mechanic series. Under close supervision, and working as part of a team, incumbents are given detailed instructions in the performance of routine tasks that are more structured and repetitive than those assigned at Level II, while learning to perform a variety of semiskilled and skilled maintenance, construction, and repair work. As requisite skills and knowledge are developed, incumbents are expected to perform increasingly responsible and difficult assignments. At the discretion of the appointing authority, incumbents may advance to the higher level after obtaining a valid California Water Environment Association (CWEA) Mechanical Technologist Grade 1 certificate and demonstrating the ability to perform the full range of duties assigned to the class, which generally requires twelve months of experience at Level I.
Mechanic II is the entry level class in the Mechanic series. This is the targeted competency and performance level of all Mechanics. Working under progressively more general supervision, alone or as part of a team, incumbents are expected to be proficient in independently performing a variety of semiskilled duties and learn to perform skilled maintenance, construction, and repair work.
The Mechanic Level I/II class is distinguished from the next higher-level class of Mechanic III in that the latter class independently performs the more complex duties and may serve as a lead on projects or assist in the training of less experienced staff.
Minimum Qualifications:
