POSITION: 3.75 Hours Per Day
Nine (9) Month Position, Monday through Friday
Salary Range: $18.94- $23.12 per hour
GENERAL DESCRIPTION:
Assists with food preparation; ordering, and storage; assists in serving prepared meals; cleans and sanitizes food preparation areas, equipment, and utensils; represents Wooster City Schools in a favorable public image at all times.
QUALIFICATIONS:
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Training and/ or experience in institutional food preparation and service, or equivalent.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
  • Assists in preparing meals (utilizes slicer to cut meats, mixer to blend, oven to bake food items, steamer, etc.,), cuts and prepares meats or vegetables for cooking.
  • Supplies items to carriers or checks items arriving from the base kitchen for quantity, quality and temperature.
  • During lunch time, performs one of the following functions: serving, cashiering, food preparation or dish machine operator.
  • Cleans food equipment, tables, food carts, etc., washes and sanitizes all food preparation materials; scrapes food; inspects trays and utensils to ensure cleanliness.
  • Supervises student workers during serving and clean-up.
  • Prepares food and equipment for storage or return to base kitchen after serving is completed or receives food and equipment at base kitchen for cleaning and/ or proper storage.
  • Ensures that dining area tables are cleaned and sanitized.
  • Completes any applicable daily paperwork assignments on a timely basis (including but not limited to transport records, banking, and meal count information.
  • Is responsible for "on the floor or on-site" supervision in the kitchen but refers any questions of work organization to the Cook Manager.
  • After gaining experience and in an emergency, can take over for an Assistant Cook Manager if he/she is absent.
  • Demonstrates regular and predictable attendance.
  • May be asked to work at another school.
OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Assists co-workers as required.
  • Performs other tasks as needed from time to time.
INHERENTLY HAZARDOUS AND PHYSICALLY DEMANDING WORKING CONDITIONS:
  • Occasional exposure to high temperatures caused by ovens, stoves, dishwashers, etc ..
  • Operation of ovens, slicers, food grinders, etc .
  • Occasional use of cleaning solvents and chemicals.
  • Lifting and moving supplies, food products, equipment, etc ..

KNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES AND SKILLS: (* indicates developed after employment)
KNOWLEDGE OF : Exposure to high temperatures related to ovens, stoves, dishwashers, etc ..
ABILITY TO : perform light to moderate manual labor (e.g., storing food products and supplies, moving prepared food to serving area, etc.).
SKILL IN: operating/using institutional kitchen equipment, appliances and utensils, food preparation techniques and procedures.
LEGAL REQUIREMENTS:
Employees must pass a criminal background investigation and provide a fingerprint card prior to employment.
