The Safety and Asset Manager plays a critical role in ensuring a safe working environment and maintaining the reliability and efficiency of all company assets, including vehicles, tools, and equipment used in commercial grounds maintenance operations. This role focuses on minimizing safety risks, reducing equipment downtime, and ensuring compliance with relevant safety regulations and company policies.
This is a regional position and covers the Dayton, Columbus and Cincinnati areas.
Safety Management:

  • Develop and enforce safety programs tailored to grounds maintenance operations, including landscaping, tree services, pesticide application, and equipment use.
  • Conduct regular site and field inspections to ensure safe work practices and environmental compliance.
  • Maintain compliance with OSHA standards, state and local regulations, and industry best practices.
  • Lead investigations into accidents, incidents, and near-misses; document findings and implement corrective actions.
  • Deliver safety training programs and tailgate talks for field and shop employees.
  • Ensure proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and safe operation of landscaping machinery and tools.
  • Maintain safety documentation, including training logs, SDSs, inspection records, and incident reports.
Asset Management:
  • Oversee the inventory, maintenance, and lifecycle of company assets, including trucks, trailers, mowers, trimmers, blowers, and specialized equipment.
  • Develop and manage a preventive maintenance schedule to reduce breakdowns and extend asset life.
  • Implement and manage asset tracking systems (manual or digital) to monitor usage, condition, and location of equipment.
  • Coordinate repairs and service with internal mechanics or external vendors.
  • Maintain accurate records of all asset acquisitions, disposals, and inspections.
  • Ensure all equipment complies with safety standards and is ready for use in the field.
Education & Experience:
  • Associate or Bachelor's degree in Occupational Health & Safety, Facilities Management, Logistics, or related field (or equivalent experience).
  • Minimum 3 years' experience in safety or asset management, preferably in landscaping, construction, or field services.
  • Working knowledge of OSHA, DOT, and local safety requirements.
  • Experience with commercial landscaping equipment and maintenance procedures is highly desirable.
Skills:
  • Strong attention to detail with excellent organizational and record-keeping skills.
  • Ability to work independently and proactively in the field and office.
  • Strong leadership and communication skills to train and influence field staff.
  • Proficiency with asset management tools, spreadsheets, and safety management software.
  • Mechanical aptitude and basic knowledge of grounds maintenance equipment preferred.
Work Environment:
  • Mix of office, shop, and field environments.
  • Must be able to walk outdoor job sites and inspect active work areas.
  • Requires occasional lifting of tools and equipment (up to 50 lbs) and use of PPE.
  • Valid driver's license required with clean driving record.
