JOB SUMMARY:
MKA is seeking an experienced Mechanical Engineer or Mechanical Engineering Designer to join our team. The Engineer / Designer will work independently on multiple concurrent projects, both in design and construction, and be responsible for the preparation of contract documents and specifications for complex building systems. This encompasses advanced calculations, systems analysis, quality control of finished projects, and field/construction coordination activities.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Interact and communicate effectively with clients, design team members, project consultants, and contractors;
• Work closely within the design team, including the Project Manager, Project Engineers, and Project Architects, while supporting or leading the development of design deliverables;
• Assist in the development of overall project goals, design criteria, project budgets, and schedule requirements;
• Perform full design of HVAC systems, including full equipment selections, for medium to large commercial / publicly bid projects.
• Perform load calculation, mechanical equipment selections, author equipment and product specifications;
• Provide consulting services, including field investigations, trouble shoot equipment deficiencies and preparation of technical and feasibility reports;
• Establish design standards, specifications, and criteria for projects;
• Provide bid and construction phase services, including reviewing bids, answering RFI's, reviewing submittals, participating in project walk-throughs, and providing field observation reports.
• Coordinate all aspects of project document completion within MKA and externally with clients.
• Must be comfortable in a variety of Plumbing & Fire Protection systems and shall be considered a technical expert and resource to the office.
• Provide a high level of technical and personal leadership.
Requirements
• Licensed Professional Engineer (P.E.) preferred
• Bachelors Degree in Engineering (Mechanical Focus)
• 10+ years of engineering experience in designing HVAC systems for commercial and educational buildings of but not limited to the following types: heating and chilled water plants, water source heat pump, VAV, radiant floor, and variable refrigerant flow systems;
• Perform environmental load calculations, preferably with the Carrier HAPS program;
• Ability to edit/author mechanical (HVAC, Plumbing, & Fire Protection) specifications and estimate mechanical system construction costs.
• Experience/proficiency in design skills utilizing Revit.
